Minelab's Most Versatile Multi-Frequency Detector
The Minelab Equinox 900 is built around a simple idea: one detector that performs everywhere. Parks, fields, beaches, saltwater surf zones, freshwater creeks, gold prospecting ground — the Equinox 900 doesn't ask you to pick a specialty. It handles all of them, without swapping machines or compromising on what you find.
At the core of that versatility is Minelab's Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency technology. Rather than transmitting a single frequency and accepting the tradeoffs that come with it, Multi-IQ broadcasts multiple frequencies at the same time and processes the combined signal data on every sweep. Low-conductivity targets like fine gold and small jewelry, and high-conductivity targets like silver coins and large relics, are all being read simultaneously — which means you're not tuned for one type of target at the expense of another. You're detecting the full spectrum of what's in the ground on every pass.

Multi-IQ Plus Six Single Frequencies
In addition to Multi-IQ, the Equinox 900 gives you six individually selectable single frequencies: 4, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 40 kHz. Multi-IQ handles the majority of hunting situations well on its own, but there are conditions where running a specific single frequency gives you a meaningful edge — high EMI environments where a narrower signal reduces interference, specialized gold prospecting situations where 40 kHz sensitivity to small low-conductivity targets matters, or sites where you want to isolate a particular target type with precision. Having that flexibility available without any additional equipment is part of what makes the 900 a genuinely professional-grade machine.
Eight Search Profiles Across Four Modes
The Equinox 900 ships with four detecting modes — Park, Field, Beach, and Gold — each with two customizable search profiles, giving you eight distinct starting points in total.
Every mode and profile is fully customizable. Discrimination patterns, tone settings, sensitivity, recovery speed, and iron bias can all be adjusted and saved within each profile — so the machine you pick up on a well-worked park hunts differently than the one you take to a relic field, exactly the way you want it to.
Target ID and Iron Bias
The Equinox 900 uses a -19 to 99 Target ID scale — negative values indicate ferrous targets, with zero as the boundary and increasing positive numbers representing higher conductivity. Iron objects read in the negative range; most coins, jewelry, and relics read in positive territory, with higher-conductivity metals like large silver coins reading toward the top of the scale.
The 900's Iron Bias control — an improvement over the system used in the earlier Equinox 600 and 800 series — gives you adjustable control over how the detector handles targets that have mixed ferrous and non-ferrous characteristics. In iron-contaminated sites, getting Iron Bias right is often the difference between confidently digging good targets and leaving them behind.
Recovery Speed
Recovery speed is adjustable from 0 to 8, controlling how quickly the detector resets between consecutive targets. Higher recovery speeds let the machine read individual targets in dense, trashy ground without adjacent targets blurring together. Lower recovery speeds improve depth on isolated targets in cleaner conditions. The Equinox 900 is well-regarded in the detectorist community for its recovery speed performance — particularly in parks and high-trash urban sites where target separation is the primary challenge.
Two Coils Included
Unlike most detectors in its class, the Equinox 900 ships with two coils in the box.
The EQX11 11" Double-D coil is the primary hunting coil — a versatile all-terrain coil that balances depth, coverage, and target separation across the widest range of conditions. It's the right coil for the majority of hunts on the majority of sites.
The EQX06 6" Round Double-D coil is the precision tool — smaller footprint, tighter target separation, and excellent sensitivity to small targets. It's the coil you reach for when a site gets trashy, when you're working tight terrain, or when you want to squeeze more targets out of a spot the larger coil has already covered. Having both from day one means you're prepared for whatever the site demands, without an additional purchase.
Both coils are waterproof to 5 meters and fully compatible with the 900's Multi-IQ and single-frequency modes.
Audio Controls
The Equinox 900 offers extensive audio customization — 1-tone, 2-tone, 5-tone, and 50-tone options, giving you a range from simple and beginner-friendly to highly nuanced and information-rich. Each tone region is independently adjustable for pitch, volume, and response. The 50-tone option in particular gives experienced detectorists the ability to read very subtle differences in target conductivity through audio alone, developing a level of field intuition that faster, simpler audio setups don't support.
The handle includes built-in vibration alerts that provide tactile feedback on targets independently of your audio — useful on noisy beaches, in high-traffic areas, or anywhere you'd prefer to hunt without headphones.

Built for Water
The Equinox 900 carries an IP68 waterproof rating, making it fully submersible to 5 meters (16 feet). The control unit, shaft, and both included coils are all rated to the same depth. This is genuine water capability — suited for surf zone hunting, shallow wading, and freshwater creek detecting, not just incidental rain exposure.
Display and Visibility
The Equinox 900's monochrome LCD display features a red backlight with multiple brightness levels, keypad backlighting, and a built-in control pod flashlight — all independently adjustable. The red backlight preserves night vision better than white-backlit displays, which matters on evening and low-light hunts. The coil also features integrated lighting for detecting in dark or low-visibility environments.
Construction and Comfort
The three-piece carbon fiber shaft keeps weight at just 1.27 kg (2.8 lbs). It collapses to 61 cm (24 inches) for transport and extends to 144 cm (56.7 inches) for hunting. The collapsible design is one of the more practical upgrades over the earlier Equinox series — it packs into a standard backpack or carry bag without disassembly.
Battery
The Equinox 900 runs on a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery rated for approximately 10 to 12 hours of runtime per charge. Charge time from flat is approximately 4 hours via the included magnetic USB cable — fast enough that an overnight charge reliably gives you a full day of hunting. The magnetic connection is secure and straightforward to attach, even in the field. The detector can also be charged via USB power bank while in use.
Wireless Audio
The Equinox 900 includes Minelab ML85 low-latency wireless headphones. The proprietary low-latency connection eliminates the audio lag that makes standard Bluetooth headphones impractical for detecting. A 3.5mm wired headphone jack is also included for wired use or when a backup pair is needed.
Software updates are applied via USB and are compatible with both Windows and Mac.
