Civil War Coat Button ??

Hello, just a small find, I found my Garrett Ace 250 here in Addison IL. Close to Salt Creek I think it might be from the civil war? I'm trying to get some info on it (see photos). I think it is made out of copper, it is not magnetic, it is about the size of a quarter. The front has the USA on it and the back just has horizontal lines.
