The XP ICON X expands the ICON platform for detectorists who want more control without stepping all the way into XP's flagship range. It combines XP's FMF® Fast Multi-Frequency technology with 6 factory programs, 6 customizable user programs, three selectable mono frequencies, expanded reactivity, finer ferrous discrimination, advanced audio options, and an ultra-light carbon stem.
It is still designed to be approachable, bringing advanced technology into a streamlined detector designed for easier operation without sacrificing the settings experienced detectorists expect. Choose a program and start detecting, or dig deeper into the settings as your experience and hunting conditions demand.
XP's FMF technology analyzes multiple frequencies simultaneously, giving the ICON X broad target coverage across changing ground conditions without requiring you to choose one fixed operating frequency. Its FMF programs work across a wide frequency range reaching up to 40 kHz, with automatic and manual frequency shift available to help manage electromagnetic interference.
For situations where you do want to concentrate detection around a single frequency, the ICON X also offers 4 kHz, 14 kHz, and 28 kHz mono operation.
Lower frequencies can favor larger and higher-conductive targets, while higher frequencies increase sensitivity toward smaller and lower-conductive targets. The addition of 28 kHz gives the ICON X more single-frequency flexibility than the standard ICON, particularly when targeting small jewelry, fine targets, or challenging low-conductors.
The ICON X includes six preconfigured FMF search programs designed around different terrain and target conditions.
Six additional user slots allow custom settings to be saved for frequently hunted locations, target types, or personal preferences.
That gives the ICON X 12 total program slots compared with 6 on the standard ICON.
The ICON X offers seven Reactivity levels from 0 to 6. Reactivity controls how quickly the detector analyzes and separates targets located close together.
Lower settings favor maximum detection range in cleaner ground. Higher settings improve separation where iron, trash, mineralization, or closely spaced targets make individual signals harder to isolate.
Additional target and iron controls include
The ICON X's 0.5-point ferrous resolution is one of its key upgrades over the standard ICON, which uses 1-point resolution in the ferrous zone.
The ICON X offers both XP PWM and SQUARE audio with Stereo Audio Morphing.
PWM is XP's traditional, highly dynamic audio response, with harmonic information that changes according to signal strength and target distance. SQUARE provides a smoother and more consistent tonal character while target volume continues to reflect distance.
Tone options include
The ICON X provides six Audio Type settings, including enhanced audio response options designed to make weaker or more distant targets more prominent. Stereo Audio Morphing can also add a secondary response to shallow targets to help communicate target proximity.
Iron volume and audio output volume can be adjusted independently.
The ICON X provides multiple ways to handle changing ground conditions rather than relying on a single automatic setting.
Grab Ground Balance allows the detector to quickly calibrate to the ground beneath the coil. Automatic Tracking continuously follows gradual changes in ground conditions while searching.
STANDARD and PRO ground modes provide another level of control. STANDARD is XP's recommended general-use mode. PRO opens more of the ground response to the operator and can help experienced detectorists work signals that may otherwise be masked by mineralization.
This gives the ICON X tools for everything from relatively clean inland ground to iron-contaminated sites, mineralized soil, wet sand, saltwater environments, and magnetic black sand.
The ICON X is not built around an isolated accessory platform. It is compatible with key components from XP's broader wireless ecosystem.
Compatible search coils include
It is also compatible with XP wireless headphone options, the MI-6 wireless pinpointer, and the XP Go Terrain smartphone app. Go Terrain can record finds and track detecting routes using your smartphone's GPS.
For detectorists who already own XP equipment, or who may expand their setup later, that compatibility gives the ICON X a much wider upgrade path than a detector built around proprietary accessories unique to one model.
The coil, remote control, and compatible wireless headphones communicate through XP's proprietary digital wireless system rather than standard Bluetooth.
XP specifies approximately 4 ms of latency across 36 automatically selected wireless channels. The result is fast communication between the coil and audio system so target response remains closely synchronized with coil movement.
The system can automatically manage audio through the remote speaker, compatible wireless headphones, wired audio, or XP BH-02 bone conduction headphones depending on the setup being used.
The ICON X remote is IP68 rated.
With the standard remote cap installed, it can be immersed to 1.5 m or 5 ft for up to 30 minutes.
For diving and deeper underwater use, the ICON X can operate to 5 m or 16 ft for up to 30 minutes when properly configured with the optional XP BH-02 bone conduction headphones and underwater waveguide.
The waveguide maintains the wireless connection between the submerged search coil and remote. XP recommends rinsing the detector thoroughly with fresh water after use in saltwater environments.
The ICON X uses XP's S-Telescopic Lite Carbon stem with a carbon middle section.
With the 11" FMF coil, XP lists the detector at approximately
The remote itself weighs approximately 110 g, making hip or off-stem mounting an option for detectorists looking to minimize swing weight.
The telescopic stem collapses to approximately 58 cm and extends to 130 cm for transportation and field adjustment.
A detachable V-shaped stem holder provides flexible remote mounting while keeping the overall system compact.
The ICON X uses rechargeable Lithium Polymer batteries throughout its wireless system.
XP rates the remote, search coil, and compatible wireless headphones at approximately 11 hours of operation, depending on configuration and audio use. Charging takes approximately 3 hours.
The ICON X remote can also receive software updates through XP's online updater, allowing XP to provide future improvements and functionality without replacing the detector hardware.
The ICON X is manufactured in France and carries LONGTIME® certification.
LONGTIME® is an independent European label used to identify products designed around durability, repairability, and long-term support.
XP provides a 3-year manufacturer warranty as standard. Registering the detector after purchase extends the original coverage to 5 years. XP also offers an optional additional 5-year warranty extension for eligible ICON and ICON X detectors.
