Product Description

The Minelab Equinox 800 has all the features of the Equinox 600 except with even more targeted gold technology. The Equinox 800 allows you to specifically target the higher frequencies in the 20kHz and 40 kHz range in order to hunt for gold, and who doesn't want to find gold on their next treasure hunt?

The Equinox 800 has 4 main modes, each with two settings nested beneath it, for a total of 8 different search modes. Park Mode is fine-tuned for trashy areas that are littered with foil or pull tabs, so you can avoid digging up more aluminum. Field Mode is designed to target different-sized relics while searching in historical areas. Beach Mode is optimized to find treasure in salty conditions whether you are searching in the sand or in the water. Gold Mode targets the higher frequencies more so you can find gold nuggets and have successful days prospecting in the mountains or streams. The second setting in each mode generally allows for more targets to be picked up in difficult terrain, whether you are battling mineralized soil on your search for Civil War relics or you are dealing with saltwater on the beach. The Multi-IQ technology helps you catch each target beneath every sweep of your metal detector.

Don't forget to add on a pair of Kellyco Ear Muffs to give your coil ears some added reinforcement.

Multi IQ Spectrum

Low frequencies give more depth on large targets, and high frequencies are usually more sensitive to small targets.

With EQUINOX you can operate across the full spectrum of frequencies simultaneously for maximum results.

Simplified Curves

* 20 kHz and 40 kHz are not available as single operating frequencies in EQUINOX 600. The Multi-IQ frequency range shown applies to both EQUINOX 600 and 800. This diagram is representative only. Actual sensitivity levels will depend upon target types and sizes, ground conditions and detector settings.

    • ★★★★★ Buy It

Review by hikerdude on October 26, 2021

Well, I've been metal detecting for ten years now, and the best, all around metal detector is the Equinox 800 I've owned probably ten different detectors, including the AT's, and the XP Deus, but the machine that has detected the deepest silver and wheats is the NOX 800. And it works real well on the beach, wet or dry.
    • ★★★★★ Magnificant

Review by Ward on September 28, 2021

The pin pointer on this machine is awesome. You'll have that target in no time. The unit is light weight: can swing it all day. Can fine tune it easily and save your settings. Hours of enjoyment without a recharge. Very durable: I am rough on these machines and this one holds up well. Have had it for 2.5 years: my go to now.
    • ★★★★★ "Get off the Dime" and buy this machine!

Review by Doug on May 26, 2021

Kellyco customer purchase easy, fast, and delivered early. Highly recommend the Andy Sabisch book to unlock this machines potential and enlighten your mind, I still am... Minelab is not kidding about performance and combined with Andy's advise... was just at a previous Garrett dig site in my yard were had popped a quarter... NOX 800 and Andy's comments prompted me to remove a lag screw, then clearly showed me the dime, and penny that was hiding right next to the screw the hole time. By scrolling and scanning detect modes, frequencies was able to make a questionable signal strong and stable relatively quickly for a new comer. The learning curve is a little steep but well worth the effort. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

Review by Diggermarc on May 7, 2021

I have been detecting for 46 years and have owned many different detectors. I started with a cheapie Radio Shack detector when I was 12 years old and through the years I had used Fisher, Tesoro, Whites and Garrett metal detectors at various times , all with varying degrees of success. After many years of hunting the areas I lived in and detecting the same sights over and over the good finds were getting harder and harder to find. I decided recently to purchase the Equinox 800 after reading the great reviews and watching many videos on YouTube of people using them. Ordered from Kellyco on a Friday and received the detector on the following Tuesday. After the easy assembly of the unit and charging the battery I took it out Saturday morning to finally try it out. Decided to try it at a local park that has been heavily hunted over the years by most of the detectorist’s in the area. Now this park is located on a historical area on a river that has an old grist mill and mill village on the property. After turning on the detector and running through the quick setup I was ready to hunt. I started off on a hillside in a wooded area of the park and the first few signals were bullets and shotgun headstamps but after about 15 minutes I got a banging 29 signal on the Nox. I dug a plug about 6 inches deep but after rechecking the plug saw it was still in the hole. After locating the target with my trusty pinpointed I dug down another 2 inches and flipped out a large copper coin. I cleaned off the face and Holy Cow a 1829 Matron head large cent! The first coin found with the Equinox and it’s a 192 year old copper! I remained there hunting for another 45 minutes and found two wheats from the 50’s , a flat button and a musket ball all from a supposedly hunted out spot. The next day I went to another site in town that I have hunted numerous times before and found a 1902 Indian head cent and a beautiful 1943d Walking Liberty Half Dollar ! This detector is amazing! It has brought the thrill and excitement of detecting back to me again. It’s like all the old places I’ve been to so many times are new again. Thanks Kellco

    • ★★★★★ Equinox 800 Bundle

    Review by 51 Code 3 on April 29, 2021

1st time buyer, did a lot of research, and everyone from Stores/Experts/Novices recommended the Equinox 800. I finally decided to purchase from Kellyco because I’m a Florida girl but travels 6 months a year in our RV. Dave Blachert helped me on the phone and answered all of my questions/concerns. I appreciate buying from a dealer that has your best interests at hand. I chose the 800 for being totally waterproof vs the Vanquish not being waterproof. They both have Multi-IQ technology which is great. The bundle is just what you need to got hunt. I also enjoy the Koffee Series and reached out to Kellyco Test Team member Cody Drake while in Arizona. He was amazing and so helpful. Thanks Kellyco for, “no pressure sale” and education of the right detector for me to buy.
    • ★★★★★ Easy to use yet powerful detector for newbie or advanced user

    Review by Keys2Heaven on March 10, 2021

I purchased an Equinox 800 as I wanted an excuse to spend more time outdoors. I was amazed at how quickly one can be up and hunting right out of the box and how the many advanced features allow you to "dial in" the detector for your location. My first time out, I found a 2007 Presidential dollar and a couple of clad quarters. The next day, I found my first wheat penny! I was so happy with my purchase that I purchased one for my 78 year old father as well!

Review by Tobes on December 9, 2020

After starting with the Ace 250 9 years ago then a year later upgrading to the AT Pr,o I purchased an Equinox 600 5 months ago. I can say that while the AT Pro was a great machine in it's time the Equinox easily blows it out of the water. I am finding items twice as deep and with quality signals. The tones and the VDI numbers are always spot on. Before I had problems at beaches but now there isn't even a hint of falsing or chattering. I've even taken it diving several times with several rings to show for it. Minelab set the standard with the Multi IQ and now the others are racing to catch up. The only thing I would change is the fact that it is very hard to hear underwater without quality headphones; this isn't an issue on land of course. All of this with a great price point makes the Nox 600 and 800 an incredible machine.

I used the Equinox 600 for the first time today on a field hunt. It's an ok machine, but not impressive. My Garrett AT Pro ran circles around it.
    • ★★★★★ Thanks for setting me up with best metal detector

Review by Pj on October 22, 2020

I was about to make a huge mistake and buy a metal detector that wasn't going to work for my application very well. I need it for beach hunting. Kellyco set me straight. Told me everything I needed to know and saved me money along the way actually. A whole lot of money. Thanks Kellyco. I am now a super proud owner of the Minelab Equinox 800 and find multiple rings daily and do ring Recoveries. Amazing feeling to help individuals and return something they hold so dear to them. Some of these moments are tear jerkers for sure
    • ★★★★★ My finds quadrupled

Review by Nathan on October 21, 2020

My finds got better and better. I switched from the 600 to the Minelab Equinox 800 after already knowing the in and outs of the Detector and now being able to fine tune the Detector to fit my needs with advanced settings I was finding even more amazing finds. Kellyco was right there to help me make a fast and easy purchase with friendly staff. I had the Detector in my hands quickly. Took three days. Amazing Kellyco.

Review by The best of the best on October 17, 2020

    • ★★★★★ EQUINOX 800 if you don't have it now get it!!

Review by Dave on October 13, 2020

I purchased a EQUINOX 800 after watching many videos and talking to Kelly at KELLYCO. It seemed to me it would do the trick.. I got it, took it out of the box charged it up and off to the park I went. first time out it took some time to get used to it like any other machine but after about an hour I got the hang of it. at the end of my 3 hour hunt I found 2 silver dimes and 23 other clad US coins. Great day!!!
    • ★★★★★ good but not great

Review by JAMES M on October 12, 2020

this machine can be complicated with all the settings ,it takes a lot of trial and testing to figure out. i found that sometimes i can go deeper with 15 khz than muti freq. i spent to much time adjusting it than detecting. i did find a bunch of coins under a bridge near a ocean beach. after using this 800 a few time it gets easier. just takes time to figure out. kellyco was quick to respond when i purchased it and quick delivery. i have 4 detectors now ,and the 800 was a good addition.
    • ★★★★★ A great choice

Review by Lewis on October 12, 2020

I have been detecting since 1975 and have owned many detectors over the years from all the major brands. The Nox 800 is a great machine. This machine goes deep as many do , but this one has the best separation between trash and treasure that i have used. The machine is light weight which is important to me , since i am on supplemental oxygen with stage 4 COPD. This machine is a great detector for a newbie as there are just 3 simple steps for start up and you are ready to detect in your choice of 8 different modes. Learn the machine , as with any of them , and put in some time. You will learn this one quick enough. I detect old home sites and parks mostly any more , but this is very capable anywhere. I won't do any water detecting , but it is nice to know that a rain storm won't kill my detector being submersible to 10 feet. The lithium ion battery holds a charge quite well , and charging is easy. The wireless headphones was a blessing in disguise for me , i never liked fighting that headphone wire. All in all a great choice for you. I have dug barber dimes consistently at 12 inches plus in an old school , and so can you. Happy hunting !!!
    • ★★★★★ Great machine, still learning

Review by FIndingHistory on October 12, 2020

I put a lot of research into this machine prior to buying it, and have had it now for almost exactly 2 months. Kellyco has been great to work with in the past and this time was no exception, and the veterans' discount on the Equinox 800 through the manufacturer and facilitate by Kellyco made this an excellent deal. Kellyco was awesome with fast shipping, great updates, etc. and wonderful customer service (Leilani was awesome!). With family and work obligations, I only get out detecting a couple of hours a week in the best case scenario -- so far I can say I'm very impressed with the Nox 800 and its capabilities, although I'm only using the factory pre-sets so far. I knew that the reports with any newer machine that "you will walk over areas you detected before and find all kinds of stuff that you didn't get with your previous detector" were hype, but I must say that indeed I have picked up a couple of really nice finds on an unmarked colonial/War of 1812-era site deep in the woods that I know only I (and no one else) have hunted before. I pounded it really hard for about 1 1/2 years with my Garrett AT Pro with a various coils including NEL Thunder and picked up many great items at depth, but the Equinox 800 with the stock coil in Field 2 has already pulled out several dandy buttons that the AT Pro missed as well as a real eye-opener - a 1780 1 Real with a hole in it that I am certain I've swung over with the AT Pro in the past and missed. Not bad for an area that I know I've "pounded out" very meticulously over the past 1.5 years. Depth has been good with the Nox 800 and separation is excellent, love the 5 frequencies running simultaneously. I don't expect to find much more at that site with the Nox 800, but I'd definitely be willing to purchase and try the larger coil and maybe the small coil as well. For all of the positive attributes of the Nox 800 I'm very satisfied so far, and I haven't even really done anything with the custom settings yet. I do have some concerns about reports I've heard of some build quality issues, especially the tabs on the coil, and for that reason I have to say that I'm more cautious with the machine going through brambles, ravines and creeks etc. than with the AT Pro. I hope that Minelab will pay attention to these issues moving forward. But otherwise, the Nox has a good warranty and I think it merits a 5-star review at this point (2 months out) in my experience with it. Would love to compare it with the Anfibio sometime.
    • ★★★★★ Very Happy Wh My Purchase

Review by Joe on October 12, 2020

I purchased a Equinox 800 6 months ago and we are very happy with it. Live in the Copper Country in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the Copper Country Rock and Mineral Club has outings at the old copper mine sites. I have found some real treasures with it and am very happy. Works so well my wife now joins me in the hunts and she wants one of her own!
    • ★★★★★ Good Machine

Review by Mike K on October 1, 2020

I like this 800 so far and Kellyco has been awesome to deal with. I just started using this machine so I don't believe I can do a honest review at this time there's a lot to get used to been running factory presets with good results it handles emi well what I don't like is the shaft the Vanquish has a nicer shaft and it's a less expensive machine. Is it better than my Deus hf I'd have to say no but it's very close I'm glad to own both if you could only have 2 machines these would be my choice every time
    • ★★★★★ Excellent value!

    • ★★★★★ Glad I Bought It

Review by Bear on August 5, 2020

I have been detecting on and off for 15 years now. My first detector was a Minelab Excalibur. For several years, it was not used for various reasons. When I finally pulled it out, I found all the wire rapping had fallen apart. I decided on the Equinox based off it was a Minelab and the reviews. I have been using it now for 6 months so here is my review:

I work strictly beaches so I found some settings online and went to program Beach 2. It was confusing, even with a video to help but I managed to get the special settings in.

    1. Pro, it has lots of options. Con, it has lots of options. I hear factory settings work so if you do not like playing with settings, leave as is and go for it.
    2. Pro, it is very sensitive. Con, it is very sensitive. It will detect items so small it can drive you crazy finding it in your scoop or sand, but that means nothing gets past you.
    3. Pro, I find the unit light and balanced enough that I can swing it for hours.
    4. Pro, the wireless headphones work great. A battery charge seems to last forever. They connect easily to the unit.
    5. Con, Pin-pointing. It may be that I am still used of working with the Excalibur but I have had trouble getting the target zeroed in.
    6. Pro, it does a great job toning out junk.

Overall, it works well and I am glad I got it. Heck, it must be good because most people detecting the beaches I go to have one.
    • ★★★★★ Incredible and Appealing

Review by Rickey on May 2, 2020

This detector has so much to offer. Multi Frequencies, water proof, so many ways to personalize, able to find super deep targets and so much more. After one trip, I'm now waiting on my 6 inch coil I just had to have. Thank you KELLYCO on being so great and helpful. The only metal detecting company I will ever deal with.
    • ★★★★★ I would recommend this detector

Review by Jeff on April 6, 2020

I bought this detector with the hope that I could go over places I have considered searched out with my eagle spectrum and find things I missed. It has not disappointed! I've found several wheats in trashy areas including a 1981 gold class ring. I've also picked up a silver Washington quarter and an Indian Head cent. It's performing like they claimed and I couldn't be happier!
    • ★★★★★ Nice

Review by Neverfloat on March 10, 2020

Not easy to custom set. Once it is set, it works better than factory preset. Does not have much chatter or false dings. I really like the multiple tone rings. In city parks it works exceptional. I have not tried gold mode yet but expect it to be better than my AT Pro. Good depth! Almost too good for city parks unless the city will let you use a shovel.

    • ★★★★★ Great detector. Great service.

Review by TexasBlaze on December 16, 2019

I just received this detector, and I must say, it is an absolute beast. It has advanced controls to give you complete control of what you hear; tones that are completely customizable to what the target is. It is putting my other detectors to shame. And I must give a shout out to Kellyco. This was my first order through them, and I am impressed. The detector was well packaged to prevent damage. They also e-mail you when it ships with the tracking number. I would recommend them to any detectorist buying a dectector or any accessories. I WILL be using them again.

    • ★★★★★ Thumbs Up

Review by hikierdude on December 6, 2019

Just got my NOX 800 and used it for the first time yesterday. I am happy. Pluses, light weight , target ID, depth, except the deeper targets were junk, three silver dimes, screen easy to read, tones were to my liking, . Neg, no charger came in the box, just the wire, air bubbles under the screen saver (my bad). Twice I put a nick in the screen saver with my shovel, I never had this problem with other detectors, but nothing to dislike with the performance. I dug 179 good coin targets (copper cents, nickels, etc totaling $15.51)) plus a dozen zinc pennies, small hand full of bottle caps and pull tabs, a few copper and brass pipe fittings, and scrap junk, totaling well over 200 targets, in eight hours, and no sore arm, and disappointed cause I had to stop, to meet a friend. I metal detected a park, city strips, and three old (teens and 20's) homes. I want to add this: Someone called the police. Three cop cars pulled up. I was told to lay down my headphones, my tools were already left on the ground, and back up. The policeman told me, someone said I was digging on their property without permission. He said earlier he saw me digging in a front yard. I told him "I had permission to do the corner house, and other than that, I'm sticking in the parkways. We waited until another officer talked to the person who complained, and discovered the person thought they owned the parkway and that I was digging on their property. The police then asked if I had found anything good, told me I could keep doing the parkways, and wished me luck, and "thanked me" for being cooperative. In eight years of metal detecting parkways, this was the second time police were called, and after finding the facts, I was told I could keep metal detecting the parkways, and they were curious what I had found, and wished me luck. Oh, one other thing, I hate digging zinc pennies, and if the NOX is reading 20/21, it's a zinc penny so I will quit digging those numbers, unless of course I'm in a really old spot and that target is deep, then I will think about it? Thank you Minelab. HH everyone

    • ★★★★★ I made the right decision

Review by Elvin on October 30, 2019

I selected the Equinox 800 to replace my trusty Garrett GTAx550, which decided to quit working. I was a little bewildered on my first hunt since the read-out is totally different than what I'm accustomed to with the Garrett. I've since been watching videos and reading through the manual to get the hang of it, then going out for hunts to incorporate what I learn. There's an old school building in my town built in 1938 where I've hunted several times in the past, finding only one wheat penny and much newer coins. First time hunting there with the 800, I found a 1941D nickel, a 1942D penny, and an old coat button. Those items aren't really worth anything, but it was a thrill nonetheless. The ground there is very junky, and the 800 did well to pick out the coins among the trash. Great machine, comfortable to wield - I'm looking forward to future hunts!
    • ★★★★★ Outstanding!

Review by JasonG on October 24, 2019

I will start by saying, I'm a beginner relic hunter. I was using a basic detector and decided to upgrade to the Equinox 800 to make hunting a little easier. I love the ability to discern between iron and ferrous objects, the localization setting, and the depth indicator. The information the device provides allows me to skip over items that are likely junk. There's nothing worse than spending 15 minutes digging a hole to find a rusty nail. Being able to identify iron makes it well worth the investment alone. Since I haven't used other comparable detectors, I can't speak to whether or not its better than the other popular detectors, but I'm certainly happy with the enhanced capabilities I now have.

I am glad I went with the 800 vice the 600, more options that will allow me to do more with this machine for all the places I intend to detect. Instructions are simple, make sure you watch the videos if you want more detailed instructions. Charged up, then went out and found two pennies, one dime and a nut. Just learning the tones and signals that are loud and strong when going over the target. I am impressed with this machine. Don from KellyCo was pleasant and helpful on the phone and the purchase went smoothly, great service.

For my first time out with the Minelab Equinox 800 I detected two spots that I had detected before with my treasure pro. They are both frequently hunted by people. I dug the usual clad coins. But I also found 3 wheat pennies, a mercury dime, and an 1898 Indian head. The coins were deep and partially masked by nails or other junk. Probably passed over many times by other detectorists ( myself included). There is a learning curve. It will be awhile before I’m totally comfortable with it and have it setup properly. But for setting it up based on a YouTube video, I was impressed by the early results. The real test will be at the beach in highly mineralized salt water. Hopefully it will impress them also.

This is my second detector I have purchased and it has far surpassed Garrett. My first big hunt with this detector was an old sugar cane production site deep in the bush of Jamaica. I found some very interesting finds but most were historical relics that had to remain in country. The detector itself has held up and performed well but it is allot of plastic for the price.

Review by Long Shaft on August 22, 2019

I have been researching my next detector purchase with great detail. After months of reading, watching and 38-years of experience assisting me along the way, I decided to purchase the Equinox 800. I water hunt, beach hunt, coin hunt, and relic hunt. Today is August 22nd, received my NOX two days earlier. Took my time reading, charging and selecting a site to hunt today. I get to my site, and old Boy Scout camp that I have been told dates back to the 30’s and up to the 60’s. I turn the unit open, take four steps bam, nice signal. Dig it and up comes a silver mercury dime. I saying to myself no fricking way. I repair my hole, take two steps, bam, two silver quarters in the same hole! I equate the experience to having sex for the first time. Wheat pennies, silver galore. This technology is incredible! Buy the Equinox 800 without hesitation. I never got out of a 30’ radius area and killed it. I was digging 12”-15” deep holes. Never once dug trash. I have this site to myself with this incredible unit. Thank you Katie at Kellyco!
    Buy this detector!

Review by Super X on August 21, 2019

I have over 50 hours on the nox. It is super fast on coin shooting with outstanding separation and recovery speed to pick through trashy spots. The equinox is a quick study and easy to operate.
My issues with the equinox arrise with the cheap materials and plastic. I have had to replace 2 coils due to ear tab breakage. I see other items that will need repair in the very near future. I would be willing to pay 50 to 100 more for quality materials in those areas that take abuse. Minelab whipped it out on the quality. Minelab did warranty the coils however, is little comfort knowing the warranty will expire all to soon.

Review by John on August 21, 2019

I have been using the whites mx sport for the past 4 years, and found tons of stuff. Then I just purchased the nox 800 about 2 months ago, and wow...what a difference. Dont get me wrong, the mx sport is a great detector. I have found nearly $700 in pocket change with that thing in 4 years, not to mention lots of other items. But I felt I wanted to upgrade a bit to something that has lots of options for settings. And the nox 800 does just that. I highly recommend to read the owners manual thoroughly. There are tons of options concerning tones..volumes....discrimination...ground types..etc. With that in mind, this machine does take some getting used to. You just need to fool with the settings and try out different things till you find out which works best for your style and what you are searching for. I took along my mx sport the first couple times out, to compare signals. I found that from 1 -4 inches deep, the signals were pretty much the same. But, about 5 inches and deeper, the mx started to get a bit erratic, jumping around. The 800 kept the same signal most of the time. Now..I went to a old farm property about 4 times with my mx sport. Found nice oldest coin yet, a 1794 liberty cap large cent!! But the first time I took the nox 800 there, I could not believe how many targets I picked up that my mx sport missed. I picked up...2 "V" nickles, 1 buffalo nickle, 2 standing liberty quarters , 12 wheat pennies, and a silver Washington quarter, and 1 indian head penny. The Equinox 800 is VERY sensitive. And if you get this machine, prepare to dig deeper. Most of the targets I have dug up are 6 - 8 inches and even 10 inches or more at times. I had a laugh one day when it picked up some thing that surprised me. It was close to 10 inches down...I saw a little bit if red plastic, curious, I put my pin pointer on it, and beeep.... I pulled it out of the ground,, and guess what? I was a small piece of wire about 1/4 of an inch long covered in red plastic.. It was a piece of an old twisty tie that you used on a loaf of bread..haha! Thats how sensitive this machine is. In closing...this is a great detector that I plan on using for many years to come. I will still use my mx sport at times to compare signals and to have a back up if the battery dies in the nox 800. Minelab did a find job creating this device. Good luck to everyone who purchases this item !!

Sold my XLT I bought from kellyco long ago but now that I have more time, I knew it was time to come back to Metal Detecting.
I also knew Kellyco was awesome when I bought the XLT so I knew who to call.
I bought the Minelab EQ 800 and I am so glad I did.
I thought it would be too complicated. Regardless of what anyone tells you, read the manual, visit forums and follow users on YouTube.
    Piece of cake honestly.
First couple of days, I just messed around in my backyard just to get the hang of it. I had not stepped 2 feet from the porch and found a 1956 wheatie. The house was built in 56. Then had an odd double like signal under the baby swing. Dug up a brass hinge. Before I covered the hole, I ran the coil back over the hole and I kid you not i found a mercury dime. I used the standard Park 1 setting. Did not change a thing.
All of this within the first 15 minutes.
I am looking forward to much more time with the 800. Awesome machine and multi-freq is amazing.
And as always, Kellyco was quick in getting it in my hands. I also was pleasantly surprised at the items in the freebie package that came with the detector.

Review by CK on July 21, 2019

From the start after watching several YouTube videos and working in my test garden I was digging in spots that I thought we had cleaned out but finding early wheats and Indians over 8" deep. I have only had it out once so I am still waiting for my first silver. This is impressive and I am learning more everyday I take it out. I do relic hunting in the spring and fall so I am considering a 6" coil.

Don at KellyCo was a great help in guiding me to the Minelab 800 and worked with me through the ordering process!

    • ★★★★★ Completely Satisfied and Have Advise

    Review by Tom_O on July 13, 2019

I believe the mixed reviews are due more to the fact that the detector ships with an 11" coil. I've been detecting for 40 years and had my hands on many units as well as options. I knew before ordering that the 11" coil probably was not going to work well for me, as I do mostly coin hunting. After receiving the unit and testing it in my own yard (which I have seeded with coins), I was right. It was very difficult to pinpoint coins and identify them correctly. Small deep coins did best, whereas larger shallow were pinging as huge. I immediately ordered the 6" coil, and it was back to normal operation with all the niceties of the upgraded technology. The 800 quickly outperformed any of my older detectors. And no, the 6" does not increase the swinging or reduce the ground coverage compared to the average 8" coil provided with many other detectors. Another note, with the 6" coil you can (and should) increase the sensitivity up to about 15-20 with no problems and you will see better performance than other detectors. I have found no reason to change any other settings other than the number of tones, which I prefer 5 to mimic my older detectors (my brain is used to 5).

With regard to KellyCo's service, it was outstanding. Faster than Amazon (can I say that on here?) !! It shipped out the same day and was at my door 2 days later (I chose FedEx Residential). The 6" coil was even faster - shipped same day, arrived the next. Wow. I was also surprised that with the detector KellyCo modified the "free extras" and included several other bags and a nice serrated digger. Nice!

I'm quite confident that anyone new to the hobby can utilize this detector in its default modes and be very successful. For advanced users, you won't find yourself piddling with all the options, as Minelab has it pretty well fine-tuned. You will change a couple and leave them there. If you're like most advanced users, you're buying it for the MultiIQ benefits anyway. Save the 11" coil for relic hunting, and get the 6" for coining. You'll be set. And read the manual ! There are quite a few small key points to know that will help you a great deal in the field, i.e. how pinpoint works by improving after each swing over the target. Enjoy !

Too many settings and buttons to set and fiddle with. Before you tell me I don't know what I'm talking about I'LL tell you about myself. Me 50 years detecting (before most of you were even born) Had 10-15 detectors over the years. (GARRETT,FISHER, WHITES ETC.) I still use my old Fisher 1280x. and Garrett Sea Hunter for salt water beaches. All you need is to know what kind of detecting you are going to do most of the time and buy accordingly
Big $$$$$$ detectors ARE NOT THE BEST FOR MOST PEOPLE, Me I water hunt most of the time (salt/fresh) so I use detectors that are suited for that purpose. PI DETECTORS FOR SALT WATER 450 TO 550 RANGE. FRESH WATER UNDER WATER DETECTORS FISHER, GARRETT. I detect about 25-30 hours a week in summer here in VIRGINIA BEACH. Review by Captnhowdy on March 17, 2019

I've used many machines by Garrett, Nautilus, Whites, and others brands. This by far has been the best machine I have ever used. It looks intimidating at first but you can learn it quickly and just like any other machine you need to use it and tune it as you go for what works for you. I'm have found enough relics in the first two days to pay for the machine. It is by far superior when it comes to detecting in areas that have a lot of iron. I cannot express how nice this machine is. Now I do have one discrepancy with it and it is the headphones after couple of months the headphones stopped working. I can charge them and the charge light will come on but the headphones will not turn on now. So I have to order new ones but I'm not gonna complain about anything else with this machine. I'm so happy with it I'll still give it 5 stars even with the headphone issues.

I never write reviews but when a company is as on point as Kellyco I have to. Carolyn was awesome she helped me decide on the best detector for me I was leaning toward the etrac which is quite a bit higher than the nox 800. She lead me to the nox even tho the etrac was higher and that gave me confidence in Kellyco not just pushing higher priced equipment but what would perform the best for me. They also gave me all the free stuff even though I used my military discount other places I looked at took it away with the discount. That’s not a discount if you do that and again Kellyco rocks My detector was here in 2 days,!! That’s was awesome as well. I used my equinox 800 for the first time today at a local park by our beach here in eufaula Oklahoma. I’m a beginner and this detector was great. No big finds just 3$ in clad found. What was impressive is the fact that the 800 picked up all those coins in trashy signals. I’d dig find a pull tab and right next to it a penny a dime or quarter Every coin was next to trash. I just wanted to say thank you to Kellyco for their awesome service. You can’t go wrong with Kellyco.

Review by Katie Deep Beep on October 8, 2018

So disappointed with the pin pointing. I dig craters to find a penny. I never get a target on the first dig. It’s as if the target continues to move around. I swear it’s not operator error! The $200 GoFind has a better collapsing shaft for traveling! The hole and pin process is antiquated! You waste time fidgeting with the stupid hole, trying to find the stupid pin and break your nails in the process. Why did Mindlab opt for this cheap, old shaft collapsing method? You certainy can’t pack it in a jiffy. Nokta has a wonderful feature with the backlight that I wish the Equinox had. The Nokta screen lights up at night when it hits a target. I like that you can adjust the backlight on the Equinox, but it would be better if it lit up when you hit a target in the night. Night detecting works great when all three are synchronized: beep, light and target ID. Other than that, we find the Equinox 800 to be just as good as the CTX3030.

First outing in the surf at Panama City Beach Florida. Not submersion, but in surf. Detector worked well at first then became quite chatty. Shortly thereafter unusable, and while I, in a puzzled state, attempted to make adjustments, it shut down. The next day, it restarted, but again, shut itself down. I then noticed small bubbles of water on the backside of the screen. I removed the protector in case these water droplets were there instead of inside the machine- but alas- no- they were inside. I've contacted Minelab, no answer, I left a message and am awaiting a return call. From a company that produced the Excalibur 1000, which I purchased in 2000, and which still works like a beast and continues to remain waterproof, this is a total fail. I expected better. On Kellyco's end, their ordering system is appalling. I also ordered (pre-ordered) the 6 inch coil for the ill-fated Nox, that order resulted in an "order complete" email, but no coil. I searched my account for the order to check it's status, it still isn't there- even though my coil was finally delivered. Need to work on that Kellyco. People get nervous about their money.

Pre-ordered the 'Nox 800 in March and I finally got it in mid June. Kellyco was spot on when I called in early May to see maybe when my pre-order might ship. Very pleasant to talk to any of their reps on the phone! The 800 really is a different beast compared to the Garretts I was used to. I really love how light this machine is. The Target ID is spot on and with the 1.75 software update, the depth indicator is now spot on. LOVE the multi-level backlight on the display and the user interface is really easy to learn. Used the detector at the Jersey Shore on vacation and was amazed at the depth and stability in the wet or dry sand. I was getting 12+ inches on coins! This machine also does well with silver jewelry on the beach. I used the stock beach 1 mode and this thing is incredibly stable even in the surf! Can't say that about my AT Max! The 'Nox also brings hunted out sites back to life with things that I had missed with other machines! Love it! Love it! Love it! Thank You Minelab and Kellyco!

Review by Joe Detector on June 3, 2018

Wow! I am new to detecting but have been amazed with the Equinox 800. It is easy to use right out of the box but also has a lot of functionality and adjustments that you can make once you get used to the detector. It is amazing just how small of an object it will detect at a fairly deep depth. I recommend downloading the manual and reading through it. Very extensive. Easy to see why Minelab is on top of their game with this machine! I know that there has been bad press regarding the detector's shaft being too flexible but mine is pretty solid once tightened down. Initially, I was a little confused regarding the wireless head phones. I thought that you had to use the WM08 module with the WL80 headphones but this is not true. My ML80 headphones connect directly to the detector. The WM08 module lets you sync other headphones (like if you have a favorite set) to the device which is also very cool. My rep at KellCo highly recommended the Equinox 800 (I was set on getting a different detector) and I am VERY happy that I listened to him and purchased the 800. I highly recommend this detector.

Q: My apologies I was looking at another brand. Can you tell me about the differences ATMax vs Equinox 800 by Mynelab

A: Both of these machines are waterproof to 10ft and also include wireless headphones. With the AT Max you get an 8.5x11" coil and with the Equinox you get an 11" coil. The Equinox is a better machine for the beach if that is where you are planning to go because of the multi-frequency technology and for the beach mode which helps deal with some of the interference from wet sand. The AT Max is a favorite relic machine in the detecting community and is great for hunting rivers or relic hunting anywhere you go.

Q: I’ve about decided on the Mindlab Equanox 800. Im a beginner though late in life. I also have a condition which is getting to the point of total deaf as I’m currently legally deaf on one side. I’m trying to get a unit for general use but good quality but I need to be sure my disability will work with this unit in being able to signal me while sweeping without audio. It appears it has screen indicating but in the field, will my hearing disability be a deterrent for this unit and if so, what other units are recommended Thanks Ken

A: I understand that you are leaning towards the Equinox 800, but you may wish to consider a Nokta Makro detector. They have a vibration mode which may be helpful.

Q: Is the Equinox 800 Bluetooth compatible with Oticon OPN hearing aids?

A: If the hearing aides are Fast aptX™ Low Latency compatible, they should work.

    Q: Does the 800 have a speaker?

A: Yes, it can be used without headphones.
  • Posted On: 3/21/2021 By: Felipe Orozco

Q: how deep can detect metal

A: Depth has many variables, but rule of thumb is that it is relative to the size of the coil. The 800 comes with an 11" coil.

Q: I own an Excalibur II. 12 years old. Has there been any new technology additions to a new Excalibur to make mine obsolete? Also, does the Equinox 800 knock the Excalibur out of the park?

A: The 800 is more versatile than the Excalibur in my opinion, but there are differences as far as capabilities. For instance the 800 is limited in being submersible to only 10 ft. As far as changes to the unit, I don't believe there has been anything significant enough to have rendered yours obsolete.

Q: I am interested in purchasing a newer detector and would like to know the differences between the Equinox 600 and the 800. I hunt in Florida in the dry and wet sand & also in the mountains of upstate NY. Also what accessories are included with each machine?

A: This article is the best 600 vs. 800 I've seen to explain the differences.

Q: What is the shipping time for this product?

A: We ship it out the same day if ordered before 5:00 PM ET. Delivery time is dependent on where it is being shipped and which carrier is selected.

Q: I'm very interested in the EQ 800 and am wondering if the military discount of 15% is good through other stores or just through Kellco? Also, I have set of Boise Bluetooth noise cancelling head sets, will they work?

A: The 15% military discount is through Minelab, If your bluetooth headphones are Fast aptX™ Low Latency they would work.
  • Posted On: 2/6/2021 By: Jon Turnbull

Q: The equinox 800 has Bluetooth technology to connect to the minelab headphones, is it able to Bluetooth to my hearing aids which also have Bluetooth technology

A: It depends on the type of hearing aid, they must be Fast aptX™ Low Latency compatible.

Q: I currently use the Garret AT Pro and I am starting to hunt salt water beaches in Florida. I am having a real hard time regulating the AT Pro. How does the E-800 compare in wet and dry sand and in the salt water? Also, how do the two machines compare for coins, rings, etc. on lawns? Thanks.

A: The AT Pro is a great detector, but does struggle in saltwater. The 800 will definitely perform better in that environment. The 800 will probably also allow you to get more depth for you other hunting needs.

Q: So if this battery pack fails with normal use over the 1 year protection plan what will it cost to get new battery pack installed? Scared to buy a 900.00 just to have to repair it in a year. I know Hypothetical but still wondering.

A: We do not do the repairs or battery replacements, I would need to refer you to Minelab directly for an estimate of cost. Here is the direct number for Minelab repair 1-888-949-6522. I would say though that I believe you would enjoy the detector for a much longer period of time before a battery replacement becomes a concern.
  • Posted On: 1/20/2021 By: tim

Q: What it the battery you need for the E-800 Just for and extra? Also about how long does it take to charge one from very low charge?

A: The Equinox 800 has a sealed battery to maintain its waterproof design. There is not an extra battery pack available at this time. It will run for about 12 hours on a full charge. Full charge should be accomplished in about 4 hours.
  • Posted On: 1/20/2021 By: Tim

Q: With the E-800 If you do not completely submerge it, say waist deep, can you still use the supplied headphones?

A: You can, but you may loose the pairing with the bluetooth if the control box goes under water.

Q: Hello I have a minelab sovereign xs I bought it about 9 years ago from a coworker. I'm not having much luck working with it. Is it a good detector? Can you tell me when these were made ? Do you know of any literature that can help me with learning to adjust the settings? Thank you for any assistance.

A: The Minelab Sovereign XS detector was released in January 1994 and is no longer in production. The Sovereign XS was a coin and relic detector utilising BBS technology. Here is the instruction manual

Q: I intrested to get Equinox-800 but i want to confirm that this machine detect underground mineral deposite, and how much is depth range.

A: The Equinox 800 has a Gold Detecting Mode : Operates the High Single Frequencies of 20 kHz, 40 kHz or Multi to Detect Gold Nuggets in Mineralized Soils. Depth is determined by the environment in which you are detecting and the equipment you are using. Environmental factors such as actual depth and size of the target, whether the soil is loose or compact, dry or wet and the type of metal that the target consists of. The equipment used such as coil size, will impact depth. A safe assumption is that depth will be relative to the width of the coil being used in inches. The technology being used is also a factor, Pulse Induction will penetrate deeper than VLF machines. Also, in speaking of VLF, lower frequencies will offer greater depth with less sensitivity while the reverse is true at higher frequency.

Q: GOLDMASTER 24k and Equinox 800 which one is good for noisy ground or gravels that can respond metal detector also best for detecting small gold in inches.

A: The 24k is going to be better for detecting gold and has been tested and proven in mineralized soil. It is a gold machine specifically so it would be a better option if you are just looking for nuggets. The 800 will be quiet and will detect small nuggets as well but it is a more of an all around detector.

Q: Being that is a rechargeable machine with a spare battery pack. What do you do to store it for the winter ?

A: You can store it anywhere during the winter. You do not need to worry about the batteries corroding.

The Minelab Equinox 800 will work good in any kind of ground conditions.

Q: I am a military vet how do I get my discount? Does the discount work for the accessories? If I will not be searching at the beach very often, is the Minelab Equinox 800 still a good choice for the beginner? What extras are essential to a good starter?

Thank you for your service! Please send proof of military affiliation to [email protected]. This discount is only good for 1 detector per year and does not apply to accessories. This is an excellent machine even for beginners! Do not forget to get a pinpointer, pouch, and a digging tool!

The CTX is a great machine and so is the Equinox 800. At this time we are not accepting trade-in's.

Q: If I want to use the 800 underwater, do I need attached headphones? If so, how much extra are they?

If you want to take the Equinox 800 underwater, you would need to use a set of wired underwater headphones. I would recommend Minelab Waterproof Underwater Headphones.

Q: I wondered if price weren’t an issue and I wouldn’t go deeper than 10’ in the water, which Minelab detector would be better...800 or Excalibur. What is the extra $600 for the Excalibur buying?

The Excalibur would be the better choice for diving. The Equinox is a great detector but is an all around machine. The Excalibur is set up specifically for diving. It even includes a short dive shaft. The Excalibur II uses strictly tones because when you dive, you are not looking at the screen. The Equinox uses both tones and a visual read out on the screen. The Excalibur allows you to understand more about the targets based strictly on the tones. Please, give us a call if we can answer any more questions for you.

The coil cover is included with the Equinox.

Q: I was wondering how deep it can detect metal.....

Most people contact us to know the depth a metal detector can go. There are a lot of factors that play a part in depth. Most hobby detectors are VLF (very low frequency) and the depth depends on the soil conditions and the target size. When it comes to hobby detectors, we like to safely say the size of the coil is about how deep it will go. For example the MInelab Equinox has and an 11 inch so the coil will typically pick up targets at 11 inches.

Q: I am trying to decide which detector is better the Equinox 800 or the Garret AT Pro can you help me? Also can I get the Military discount with the AT Pro if I decide to go with that ?

Both the Minelab Equinox and the Garrett AT Pro are excellent detectors. They both have features that make them great machines. It is hard to say which detector is better without knowing where you will use it or what type of detecting you plan to do. We would be happy to go over which detector is better for YOU if you give us a call. As far as the military discount, it is only for Minelab detectors.

Q: Hi I’m looking at buying the equinox 800 for a beginner in highly mineralised ground. What is your recommendation for a detector Under $1500 for this application or would the equinox be the best match.

The Minelab Equinox 800 is an excellent choice for the mineralized soil. It uses multi-IQ technology which makes it very stable in that type of soil. The Equinox 800 is easy enough to use for beginners and is a detector that you can grow into and used the advanced features as you detect more. I would say this is an excellent choice for the type of detecting you plan on doing.

  • Posted On: 7/10/2020 By: Richard Spoede

The Minelab Equinox 800 does come with the coil cover. To get up and running, you want to have a pinpointer, pouch, gloves, a pouch and a good shovel.
