Civil War Canteen Shot Through!

By: Kellyco C.

Found this last year in 3 feet of water, lying on a limestone shelf. It was found near a major Civil War battle site. Although I could remove most of the concretion to show more of the silver color of the Yankee canteen, I decided to leave it as is. I believe this is the 1858 US model. The large caliber shot hit just below the spout, knocking the spout clean off. You can see the exit hole. While not my most valuable find, it is one of my coolest!
