V3i Finds 1789 GW Inaugural Button!
I purchased a V3i December 27, 2009 after I moved to Northern Virginia after a job transfer. I had never metal detected before in my life but I had always wanted to. I also knew that I had a big job ahead of me learning everything that the V3i could do.
Since that time:
I have been very fortunate in the past year finding lots of civil war relics in my back yard, neighbours back yards, and other local areas in the northern Virginia area. I was very fortunate when a friend of mine invited me and another friend to go metal detecting with him in central Virginia on some land where he had exclusive permission to hunt.
It was an old colonial house site and it was a beautiful fall day in November. We moved quite a bit of foundation rocks around and had some nice finds including some civil war era coins, early 1800's English coins, and tons of flat/colonial buttons.
I searched just outside of the house foundation near the back of where the house was located and I got a nice signal at about four inches. It sounded like the usual shotgun shell reading and I dug a nice plug and flipped it over. Low and behold, a nice silver flat button was in the plug.
Upon further examination, I was astounded at having found a 1789 George Washington Inaugural button. It had 98% or its original silver on the face as well as a straight shank.
The V3i sure keeps me busy!
