Minelab Excalibur II Metal Detector with 10" Search Coil
- Product Review (submitted on December 19, 2008):
I have a home in Cedar Key that I visit regularly. From there, I go to various beaches throughout Florida. I got the Minelab Excalibur II based on reviews, and feedback from other detectors. At first, it took a good while to get used to distinguishing the different sounds, but I eventually got the hang of it. Later, I had to get 2 extra battery packs as the one that came with it did not last nearly long enough. I like the detectors performance, but it leaves a lot to be desired as far as user friendliness. I'm also sad that it didn't come with what used to be free options as incentives such as the hip-mount, etc. This is a lot of money to spend to have to spend hundreds more on accessories.
I've gotten a couple of good years out of this detector so far. Hopefully, it'll last a couple of more. Some of the accessories do seem a little cheaply built for my taste, but they have performed better than I'd initially feared, so I can't say they are truly cheaply made yet. I do dive with it. It's done fairly well. I'd like to see a model come out with at least a battery indicator of some kind. That would be very helpful. All this being said, I'll give this detector a 3 (actually I'd give it a 3 1/2 star if one were available) star rating instead of a that 5 simply because I see significant room for improvement, and I would never give a 5 to any because there is no such thing as perfect. I do recommend this product.
