- Product Review (submitted on March 17, 2008):
Fisher 1280x Aquanaut Review: To qualify my review I want to let everyone know that this detector is my first metal detector. The only time I had actually used one before was while looking for property lines on a piece of property we had purchased, I rented one from a local rental company. I had wanted to get into metal detecting for quite a while, looking at many different types of detectors from gold detectors to coin shooters, but never had the money or the time to spend on the hobby. Both my wife and I are Certified SCUBA divers, and where we live in Washington there are lots of items that were tossed into the bay. This made the choice of a underwater detector a better decision. That, and the fact that there are beaches that can be detected, and having a waterproof detector is a great benefit.
I have not had a chance yet to operate underwater, but I have checked out the local parks, (with permission, of course) and have found some coins. My lack of experience with the detector underwater is the only reason I gave the detector 4 of 5 stars. from ease of use and ease of learning to visual indicator, I am pleased with this purchase, and now that we have just purchased dry suits, I plan on using the detector underwater soon, as there is large area that is shallow and I don't believe has ever been detected before. The Fisher Aquanaut will be a great tool for exploring the bay, and I will report my findings in a later review.
I purchased the Fisher 1280x Aquanaut to use while scuba diving in our local area. I had been looking for a metal detector that could do everything I wanted, but I couldn't find one that does EVERYTHING.
