Minelab Excalibur II Metal Detector with 10" Search Coil
- Product Review (submitted on March 17, 2008):
I got my Excalibur at Kellyco about 5 years ago and have not wanted another detector.
It works just as well on land as it does in the water. The first time I took it out to the beach I found a woman's wedding band that had two diamonds in it. The next time I used it at the same beach I found a 14k men's ring with a 1/4 ct diamond in it. It paid for the detector. I have found thousands of coins and a lot of gold jewelry. On land I have hunted a lot of early sites and have found quite a collection of coins and artifacts. The depth is really good on land and in the water. No problems with the ground being iron or salt or fresh water. I recommend it for someone that is either just getting into treasure hunting or someone who has been in it a long time.
The only complaint, if you would call it that, is that the Excalibur goes too deep. I have dug holes in the bottom that are about 3 ft deep and about 2 ft deep and came up with a 50 cal shell from the second world war that the beach was used for straffing practice. It is simple to operate and easy to learn the tones that the good stuff gives off. It will find the smallest earring back or a diamond stud just as easy. I did have to send it back for a repair on the headset wire but it was a real quick turnaround and the people are super to work with. Again, I recommend the Excalibur 800 completely.
