Minelab Safari Metal Detector
- Product Review (submitted on January 9, 2014):
- Hello. First of all I am an Electronics Professional with over 35 years in Avionics Design and Development with a PHD in Electronics Computer and Avionics Design. I read most, if not all of the information on various other metal detectors. I had a very inexpensive old MD that my father-in-law gave me 10 years back. It worked but was not at all very dependable, broke down constantly. Finally I sold it last year at a garage sale as someone needed parts for a similar old unit. At first I ordered a Minelab X-Terra 505. It was shipped quickly with a nice set of the accessories included and all was fine, however, me being the engineering type I had done more reading after that had shipped. Blake and Kellyco were great, and after calling Blake and requesting an exchange. Yeah, guys change their minds too :) . Note : I had not assembled the Minelab 505 so Blake made it possible to get a brand new Safari at a deal price, so I sent it back and have a new Safari on the way. My reasoning was that using full spectrum frequencies will more than likely help as the soil here close to New Orleans if very mineralized and this unit give me more options at a reasonable price. Thank you Blake and Kellyco for doing that switch easily for me. I just hope the unit as good as the customer service. It seems that Minelab is the top company and has more for your money at the given price. I hear some other good units are available but after much reading and checking on other websites and talking with Blake and a few others this is a good price point and hopefully I will not end up a discouraged newbie. This is a great deal from comparing the alternatives if you got the $999 or so. Why take less? My Thanks to Blake and Kellyco for great service and making the return as painless as possible. Great service :) I'll try to keep you informed when I get the unit in the field and start tracking it down not seeking wealth (but would not turn down a great find ) :) To me It's just a fun hobby with an above average MD. - Tom M.
