Garrett GTI 2500 Pro Metal Detector

Garrett GTI 2500 Pro Metal Detector

Product Review (submitted on March 18, 2008):
Since I've retired I have purchased a Garrett 2500, I've been able to spend more time in the field. Most of my detecting is coin shooting on old farmsteads, public areas or sandy beaches but I am developing a growing interest in gold nugget hunting. The factory settings for the 2500 make it very easy to begin hunting but it also has many features that allow one to move into specialized areas as the opportunities become available. Although I would recommend a 2500 to others, a new hunter may be somewhat reluctant to buy this more expensive machine if they weren't sure they would want to continue the hobby. I purchased the 2500 because I've had good experiences with my old Garrett and I especially like the ID meter on the 2500 although I don't rely on it 100%. The target depth is quite accurate.

Over the years I've learned to use less discrimination and dig a little more. The local club I belong to has monthly hunts during the summer and this has helped improve my skills and compare other detectors to mine. They use a variety of coins to seed an area so this gives us experience with different targets. I have also attended a FMDAC hunt and a regional hunt both of which were areas seeded with coins and / or rings. These too increased my enthusiasm. Other than at the organized hunts most of my finds have been modern coins and a few silver coins. My goals for the coming hunting season are to find more coins, more silver, some rings and try to find a gold nugget and / or a cache. I am registered with the ring finder website but haven't had an opportunity to search for any of their lost rings.
