NEL Tornado 12x13" Search Coil (Garrett AT Pro)

The Tornado Coil is the most famous NEL coil. It is "golden" in finding coins, treasures and artifacts in the field of military battles in any territory. The coil is unusually light for its size at only 560 grams, which makes it easy to search for a whole day! Working with a slow swing will maximize its ability in finding not only medium and large targets, but small targets which weigh less than 1 gram as well. This coil is superior to standard coils in depth by 18% - 40% (depending on metal detector model) and in ground coverage between 25% - 50% (depending on metal detector model). It is recommended as a replacement for standard coils.

Coil is fully submersible, body is filled with epoxy resin and additionally has a black protective coating that is used for the protection of marine boats, and it makes it possible to use the coil without a coil cover. The coil copes excellently with high and medium soil salinity. Recommended for professionals and amateurs!

Can't Hide from the NEL Tornado!

Review by Nelsonwurst on September 16, 2016

After a fair amount of research, I decided to pull the trigger on a NEL. My biggest dilemma was which one to go with for my AT Pro. It seems the bigger you go with these the deeper they go, but with depth comes some sacrifice in accurately being able to identify what's below, not to mention additional weight. It seemed like the right balance for me was the Tornado.
Having finally gotten a number of hunts under my belt with it, here are my observations:
It definitely runs deeper than my stock 8 x 10 coil. How much? I'm not sure. What I do know is I ran over the same 20 yard x 20 yard piece of ground in a park that I'd hit several times earlier this year with my stock coil, and came up with: a 1906 Barber Dime at 8", a silver bracelet at 7", a silver ring, 2 junk rings, and a bunch of deeper clad which I had missed before. Was it because it runs deeper or because its wider? Probably both. Either way, that's a major plus!
I think the person that will have the most benefit from this coil is the "dig it all" type. For its size, I think its got great target separation, but in trashy locales it can be challenging if you aren't listening carefully and sweeping slowly. In non-trashy areas, its money! As mentioned earlier, I lost a bit of ability to accurately determine what's below (per VDI numbers) when compared to stock. For example, the silver bracelet and ring both came in around zinc penny range (78/79) whereas with the stock - in reasonable depths - would probably come in somewhere around mid-80's. I also found nickels to be a little "scratchier" than the stock, but the VDI was still around the same.
The extra weight of the coil was somewhat noticeable, but still very comfortable. If anything it helped me to slow down my swing.
Some have reported them to be very noisy, with lots of chatter, but that hasn't been the case with mine. Just need to do a factory "reset" after you've attached the coil (hold down the power button for like 10 seconds).
Its crazy good at detecting the smallest targets. You may not know what they are, but you'll know they're there.
There's a small learning curve to get comfortable with it, but after 3 or 4 hunts you'll wonder why you didn't buy it sooner. It truly does take a "hunted out" location and opens the door for all kinds of new finds. I couldn't be happier.
