    • ★★★★★ Best detector I have owned in the past 60 years of detecting.

Review by Ron on May 29, 2020

60 years ago I started detecting by building my first detector at age 15 from a Popular Mechanics magazine and I have been hooked ever since. I have had and used many detectors in that time, some inexpensive but workable and others very expensive and loaded with features. My background is that I was a R&D Electrical Design Eng. for a large and well known company so I know a little bit about what makes a well designed and a user flexible consumer item. An item that many people will covet and compare against other similar items of equal quality and usability. I mostly use detectors and equipment from the four major detector companies, who are mainly responsibility for starting the detector trend and because they have for-fathered and kept developing equipment and ideas for many years. After all these years I have settled on a very few that meet my standards of quality and performance and at the top of the list is the E-Trac. I have used this detector since it was released because of the innovations that were used in this model. It took me probably about a year to discover its full potential for my uses but it has become my go to detector that I go for when I am serious about my detecting session. It does everything I want from a metal detector and even after about 10 years of using it, I am still learning. Proof of this learning was just recently finding a Large One Cent piece dated 1803 and found in very good condition with hardly any wear signs. The only signs of age was, that the finish was pretty dark in color because it is suppose to been made from pure copper. The amazing thing about the find was when I got the first reading it seemed to be about 10 in. deep but had a strong signal. The next thing I noticed was when I started to dig and came across many many old forged nails that were in bad decay and that decay spread out around when each nail laid which when I removed the nail the signal seemed to move a little deeper or shallower plus moved its horizontal position but I kept digging because that coin signal stayed strong. So I took a break, sat down and edited my pattern to be very tight, eliminating every signal that was not that coin signal and went back to digging. In a short while I found that single coin and about 15 or more 3-4 inch forged nails in bad shape. In the process I made a hole about a foot and a half in diameter and about 10-12 inches deep. Thanks to the E-Trac's editing capabilities I was able to cancel out all the junk, including those pesky nails and found my coin. Probably the only other detector to my knowledge that could do that would be the Minelab 3030. Needless to say I am very pleased with my E-Trac and it has never let me down. True, there are other detectors that have more goodies than the E-Trac but reading the specs on those detectors, those goodies would have little meaning for me in my treasure hunting. So thats my story why I say that my E-trac is my number ONE go-to detector. If something bad happened to my E-Trac today, there would be another E-Trac on order as soon as I could get to a phone. I hope this helped some of you looking for a new detector.

Review by John on May 25, 2016

My E-TRAC arrived in three days. I got it today and my first dig was a state quarter. My second hole was an 1873 Indian head. Awesome detector!!! I can't wait to use it more!

This is one fantastic machine! I have been hunting since 1997 and have used other detectors including the Minelab Explorer. The E-Trac is by far the best machine I have ever used. I was able to find a lot of wheat cents and several mercury dimes from hunted out parks. What I really love about the E-Trac is it's ability to hunt in high trash and find valuable rings. I have never had luck finding gold jewelry on land and only found it in the water. This year in about 3 months I found 40 rings including 3 diamond rings. 2 valued at $1800 and $1500. I am only scratching the surface and will only get better as I learn how to use it.
    • ★★★★★ Best I Have Used to Date

Review by Joe S on November 4, 2013

I have (like many others) started this hobby with a low or mid-range detector and worked my way up as I got comfortable, and saw others with better equipment walk behind me and turn up stuff my detector went right over without a peep. So I have learned when you have a good spot and think it is hunted out, if you upgrade to go back and check again you normally turn up a couple more things. I have had a White's MXT and a Fisher F75, and recently wanted to try the E-Trac due to more readings actually hitting the ground. I have gone back to places that have been hunted out by the lower line detectors, and I have been with both my other detectors and turned up more old silver than I had found in places that had not been hunted by many others. This goes way deeper and seems to be able to even find stuff that wasn't even deep that so many others went over. Once you get your settings and learn it you will not be digging trash unless you just want to be sure - but after you dig that tab you will say I knew it was a tab. Other ones I have thought trash and dug a coin. They were not good at singling out like the E-Trac. It does a lot, so read and read more about it - but once it is learned I will not want another detector, and no longer feel like you're walking over stuff that someone with a better detector will find. You can't go wrong with this one.

Review by Dave on June 19, 2012

I have purchased and resold many high end detectors in the past to decide which one was for me. I've been detecting for 40 years and I find that most detectors are pretty good for the job that they're designed to do. The Minelab E-Trac was purchased rather recently and I am happy with it and will keep it but there are a couple of things I don't like about it. Let me first start with the positive: I like the way it's designed and built. It is very sleek and pretty well balanced. You can tell that some thought went into the design. It's fairly simple to operate right out of the box. After much experimentation and utilization of other user’s ideas, I settled on the basic coin program with auto sensitivity +2 or +3 as my normal program. I like to set it for "conduct" and "recover deep" as well as "multi tone". For pinpointing I like the "sizing" feature so you can tell if the target is large like a can or small like a coin. I'm one to constantly change settings on things so this detector doesn't tempt me too much to change a lot. It goes deep enough for me with the stock coil but not noticeably deeper than other high end brands. The relatively minor things I don't like are first of all, the time it takes to charge the battery...18hours. I believe it should be an overnight charge and not more. The second thing is the noise cancel... it's great but I think 30 seconds is too long to stand there waiting for it... I feel kinda stupid with people looking on and saying "what's he doing"? The third thing is the sounds of the targets. No matter what settings I use they're still not crisp like on other detectors unless the target is very shallow then its better. These are all very minor annoyances but the fourth thing I don't like is for me, the worst annoyance. The system used on the screen to ID the target to me is not user friendly. Sure, once you've used the detector long enough you can say okay, a quarter is about "12-47" on the number system and about "here" on the screen.

After extensive research on metal detectors which included type, price and potential reliable customer service, I decided on purchasing an E-Trac from Kellyco. Instead of placing my order online, I chose to call instead due to a few questions I needed answered in making my final decision. A sales rep, Frank, took my call and was very courteous, informative and went above and beyond making sure I knew of all the freebies, warranties and bonuses of my purchase. The confirmation email was very helpful in making sure addresses were correct and in tracking my purchase through UPS. I received my E-Trac along with the free accessories included, five days later and was very pleased with Kellyco's attention to service, products, and customer satisfaction. Being a first time buyer of a metal detector, I am impressed by the E-Trac performance and quality of services I received from Kellyco. I am convinced I made the best possible purchase and chose the best company in doing so. Thank you Kellyco. I look forward to doing business with you in the future.
    Sincerely, Brad

I live in Ohio and I mostly hunt for old coins. I purchased the Minelab E-Trac in the spring of 2009 and I started by going back over the good spots I had searched to death with my old ($900.00) detector. I started by just turning it on and using the Coins setting. The first thing I noticed was that the E-Trac was much more stable and quieter than my old detector. I started by digging everything and in no time at all I was finding wheat cents I had missed and soon silver coins too. I was very impressed that I was finding older coins deeper than I could with my old detector with no real experience with the E-Trac yet. In 2009, I found 247 silver coins and well over 1000 wheat cents, most were found in local "hunted out" parks. I find that I go to some places now and don't find clad or many surface targets but I do find DEEP coins everyone else missed. I also love how you can change the sounds on E-Trac so that silver targets really sing for you. The only bad thing I have found about E-Trac is that you will be digging much deeper holes.

This is absolutely one of the best metal detectors ever made! My decision to buy this Minelab metal detector was made by researching a few metal detector review sites like Kellyco. All the reviews I read were right on the money! I have been detecting for a long time but this metal detector makes me feel like I am hitting completely new sites once again even though many have been hunted to death!

I am new to the metal detecting hobby / trade. I read about all the metal detectors. I bought a Minelab E-TRAC from Kellyco. There is a great page to compare on detectors on the Kellyco site and that is what I did. I made the purchase and off I went. I found 7 rings and a 2 pound coffee can of coins. I find that the more I use it the better I get. Hearing is the key to this detector, after the first ring sound you will never forget the sound that E-TRAC makes. I was behind others and found twice that they did.

After receiving the E-TRAC in Feb. 09 and Andy's book, I found that with past knowledge of the hobby and help from members of Findmall.com and TreasureNet.com that this is truly a great detector. I wanted to wait and use the machine a few months before posting what I thought. Kellyco was able to take care of all my questions and from past orders I know they will always be there after the sale for any help needed. Anyone can get the detector and use the preset modes for hunting and can find treasure their first day out but I feel that unless you have someone to help you or if you have past use with an Explorer it is not for the beginner. You need time to learn the machine. If you are willing to take this time you will not regret buying this detector at all.

After about 30 or 40 hours I soon found what it was telling me from the sounds and display but was finding coins and other Civil War relics the first day. It just got better as time went by. The control pad is easy to understand and navigate. The depth is great with the 11'' Pro coil. I also have the 12x15" SEF and 6'' Q2. Each of these coils served a purpose in different hunting areas and they all have made great finds for me. I mostly hunt for coins and Civil War relics and find that the E-TRAC has done very well. In fact, it has almost paid for itself after just a few months of use.

In a yard that I've hunted with other machines and have had problems with nails (nulling), I found that the see through ability was true, finding a H.T&B. Manchester Confederate Eagle button worth $1115.00 the third month I had it not to include the coins, one of which was a 1835 Capped Bust (all mixed in with the nails and passed over by other machines, the E-TRAC still gave a good ID even in this trash). If the multi sounds are too much go to FE 2tone (only dig your high tone that fall into the good ID #'s) and then change as you get more used to the detector. If you do get the machine, you will not go wrong!

I have been using the E-Trac for under a month but have to say it has really impressed me so far. Specifically in it's way to sift through iron fields and pull out coins. I mainly detect colonial thru mid-1800's homesteads and for anyone who has hit these types of sites, you know that most of the time you will find iron fields near where the home or barn sat. I've hunted with the Explorer SE for 2 years and have done pretty well hunting these types of sites, but I never had very good success in the actual iron fields. I'd find a coin or two but always felt there was more there hiding under the iron. Well after reading several field tests of the E-Trac, I specifically wanted to see how this detector would handle hunting in the many iron fields I've encountered.

After learning some of the ins and outs of the E-Trac, I purposely made the first 10 spots I detected with the E-Trac previous places that I felt I've "hunted to death". I chose these spots because they had mid-sized to large iron fields at them. The first site I went to I pulled a total 24 coins, 4 mercury dimes, 3 Indians, and lots of Wheaties all from a site I had already "hunted out". I was amazed, the next day I hit another "hunted" site for a quick half hour - 2 silver dimes and 5 Wheaties. I couldn't believe it. This went on and on - I couldn't believe I was finding coins in the iron patches. It felt like they were all new spots, I truly couldn't believe how this thing worked through the iron and gave me coin readings.

Anyway, needless to say - I am VERY please with my new E-Trac! The only thing that has slowed me down is the snow - but once it's gone I have another whole list of sites that I've hunted out. It's a whole new ballgame!

I have had another brand of detector and had almost sworn off other brands, until I got my E-TRAC. Kellyco made good on their shipping and with the BOGO on detectors it has made my 2008 great! I took the E-TRAC to a field that I have already hit hard, and this machine was getting hits on targets that are right where I thought was tapped. The targets were between 4-12 inches. Unfortunately, the ground here is now frozen. Without a jackhammer, I'm at a loss till spring / summer. The BOGO is not over so get your E-TRAC before the sale ends. I dove in and I picked up a Cobra that will enable me to detect underwater and above. What a great sale they have.

I have a new favorite! Replacing my Explorer SE is the new E-Trac. Detects deeper, faster, and is easy to use. In fact, I'm detecting in areas that I've already searched. For as we all know, a couple inches can encompass decades of history. The ability to link-up to your computer is a feature for those who want to customize and save specific discrimination settings. I'm much more of a "find it all" type of hunter so I haven't dabbled too much with it - even so, I find that it's speed and refinement to detection is well worth the extra cost over the SE. Minelab has shown that they can improve upon perfection! Gave it 5 stars, but it deserves 6!
