The GPZ 19 Super-D search coil has been designed by Minelab to maximize the performance of your GPZ 7000 and give a significant depth increase over the standard GPZ 14 (14x13") search coil. Minelab field testers have spent several months carrying out significant testing so the Engineering team could deliver a superior accessory coil. Larger coils typically detect deeper than smaller coils of the same configuration. Minelab field test results, in both low and high mineralized ground, using a range of natural gold nuggets, give an average 30%* detection depth increase when measuring performance of the extra large GPZ 19 coil compared to the standard GPZ 14 coil.

Minelab GPZ 19 - 19x18" Super-D Search Coil (GPZ 7000)
Larger coils typically detect deeper than smaller coils of the same configuration. Minelab field test results, in both low and high mineralized ground, using a range of natural gold nuggets, give an average 30%* detection depth increase when measuring performance of the extra large GPZ 19 coil compared to the standard GPZ 14 coil. With nugget sizes of 10g and below, the GPZ 7000 High Yield Gold Mode gave superior in-ground results. As the selected nugget size increased above 20g, switching into GPZ 7000 General Gold Mode provided an additional depth increase over High Yield.

Let’s take a more detailed look at what this shows. These results were obtained from 8 specific gold nuggets ranging in weight from 1.9g up to 60.5g. Each nugget was tested in both low and high mineralised ground, with the GPZ 7000 detector set in High Yield Gold Mode and General Gold Mode. Therefore the results in the diagram above are an averaged combination of 4 data sets:
- High Yield Setting, Lower Level of Ground Mineralization
- High Yield Setting, Higher Level of Ground Mineralization
- General Setting, Lower Level of Ground Mineralization
- General Setting, Higher Level of Ground Mineralization
Also, these particular results show that there was no ‘crossover point’, with the GPZ 14 performing better at depth for the smaller nuggets, and there was not a uniform depth increase across the nuggets – it did vary up and down, with some results less than 30% and some greater. This is likely due to the individual characteristics of the nuggets under test.

As you can see, there’s a lot of comparative information here. Minelab carries out significant testing and all of the results build up to give an overall picture of a new coil’s performance. This includes verifying computer modelling, taking measurements from Minelab's four test lanes and a large variety of results from field testers around Australia and overseas.
For those of you that buy the GPZ 19 coil, you should expect it to be 30% deeper, on average, compared to the GPZ 14 coil. It will also cover more ground and pick up less ground noise, but it is heavier and can also pick up more EMI. As with choosing any coil for any detector, it is still a trade-off decision, but you should find that the GPZ 19 really will unleash the full power of the GPZ 7000 detector!
Detection depth and gold sensitivity depends upon the detector technology, the coil size and the configuration. Increasing the coil size on a GPX Series detector (from Commander 11" to 15"×12" to 18") will give a measurable depth improvement. Increasing the coil size on a GPZ 7000 from GPZ 14 to GPZ 19 will also give a significant improvement.
* In iron mineralized ground, a GPZ 7000 detector with a GPZ 19 coil will achieve much better results than a GPX Series detector with any size Commander coil. In very salty ground the GPZ 14 coil may give better results than the GPZ 19 coil.
