Garrett AT Pro Metal Detector

Standard and Pro Audio Modes

The Garrett AT Pro Metal Detectors provides treasure hunters with two beneficial search modes to accurately pinpoint buried targets. The Standard Audio Binary Mode will send a full-strength audio signal regardless of the target's depth. This mode is preferred by the vast majority of treasure hunters who like either the on or off style of response.

For a setting similar to that of the ever popular All Metal Mode, Garrett Metal Detectors has included a proportional (Pro) Audio Mode. The Pro Audio Mode allows the user to "hear" the properties of the target through subtle changes in the tone. The user is then able to determine the buried target's size, shape and depth. As a bonus, it is able to detect adjacent targets which allows for a quicker recovery time.

AT Pro Target Response

Depicted in the above diagram is the sustained audio response in the Standard and Pro Audio Modes. The metal detector using the Standard Binary Audio Mode provides a sustained tone for both the shallow and deep coins. Comparing that to the metal detector using the Pro Audio Mode, the shallow coin emits a strong signal while the deep coin emits a weak signal.

The above diagram shows that the Standard Binary Audio Mode produces a solitary strong signal from both coins. The Pro Audio Mode on the other hand emits an uneven signal that plateaus on each adjacent coin. This lets the user know there are two separate coins next to each other.

Tone Roll Audio Mode

The Tone Roll Audio Mode was designed by Garrett to help treasure hunters better identify targets, especially those containing iron. While in Standard Binary Audio Mode, a metal detector will emit a solitary sound which will be based on the targets properties. Tone Roll Audio, on the other hand, emits a tone that will vary as it is swept across the target. This variation in tone gives the user more information on the target and allows them to make better judgments on what to dig up as well as what to leave in the ground.

AT Pro Audio

AT Pro Water

All-Terrain Versatility

The Garrett AT Pro Metal Detector was designed for treasure hunting in wet, muddy, dusty and humid environments. The device has built-in waterproof housing and connectors that are covered against the elements. It can be submerged in water as high as 10 feet to search along river, shorelines, piers, docks, or even swimming holes.

NOTE : Waterproof headphones (optional item shown in photo to left) must be used if the headphones are immersed in water. Standard headphones provided with AT Pro can not be submerged.

High-Res Iron Discrimination™

Iron discrimination on the Garrett AT Pro Metal Detector can be set by using the (+) or (-) IRON DISC touch-pads. The settings can go from one to forty levels to easily ignore iron trash and find the treasure that you're looking for.

Digital Target ID System

The Digital Target ID System on the Garrett AT Pro Metal Detector includes specific targets values to quickly identify what's buried in the ground below. The screen identifies targets on screen with a number between one and ninety-nine. The most ferrous targets are labeled as a one with the most conductive targets (thick silver) registering closer to ninety-nine.

The brilliance of the Target ID on the Garrett AT Pro's touch-pad is that it can show the precise location of a silver coin up to eight inches in depth. The target ID number on the graphic to the right corresponds with the Upper Scale Target ID Cursor.

Sean & you will find

Review by Dirthole on October 01, 2019

I was a little skeptical about the atpro. But it proved me wrong the first time I went out I found a 1915 quarter second day I went out two Indian head pennys
I put a nail coil on their 5 inch coil What A Difference that Made so easy to to find your items in the ground with that then I purchase the at max I'm not too thrilled about that is too crunchy but it does fine I live in Upstate New York and the town that was settled in 1721 there's still a lot of stuff in the ground around here but anyways try it you can't go wrong for the price Happy Hunting.
Believe it or not I have pulled coins out of the ground 8 to 10 in and some artifacts up to 10 inches also overall I'll give it five stars.

My new but fave Garrett

Review by Jim G on August 31, 2019

I have been a Garrett fan from the beginning. I started with the 250, passed it on, then the 350, the 400 and now the at pro. I’m still learning all the nuances of the at pro, but I love that I can river hunt without worrying about getting the unit wet. I detect with a group of guys who all have different machines: white’s, minelab, deus, and they always ask me to come over and check a signal with mine. I love that it commands that respect in the field. Thank you for another great experience with the at pro and more to come!

Fun at the beach!

Review by Troyoz-ohio on August 29, 2019

My wife loves to go to the beach so I detect while she drinks up the sun but she wanted to detect in the water with me so we got her the AT Pro and it does a great job of finding little treasures!

Garrett AT Pro

Review by Colin on August 21, 2019

I really like his machine because it's so easy to learn and use. I enjoy going over "cleaned" areas and finding what others have missed. I've found objects as deep as 12". Whether it's coins, rings or relics, the AT Pro rocks!

Awesome detector

Review by Cole on August 21, 2019

I own this and 3 other Garrett machines. The AT Pro is easy to learn and really performs and is my primary machine for coins and relics. I've found relics a 12" which impressed me.

Been using the AT pro for 7 years and would recommend this unit for anyone seeking an all around detector that goes deep with a quick recovery speed....plus you are backed by the excellent Garrett service department if you ever have a question or problem.

Awesome Machine

Review by Matt on August 21, 2019

After upgrading from my ace to 250 I took it to a site only I’ve hunted for serval years and found 2 silver coins.
It can detect very small objects. Can reach up to 12 Inches. No problems to say

Great machine glad I got one love it

Review by Buster on August 21, 2019

This is by far the best metal detector I have , easier than I thought it would be to learn.

Absolutely Love It

Review by Detecting Smiths on August 20, 2019

This is my go to machine. It was Guice to get started but I’m still learning some tones. Pinpointing is very accurate and easy. Cleaning the machine is a dream with it being waterproof. I just wash it off with a garden hose. I would absolutely recommend this machine to anyone.

Great machine

Garrett AT Pro

Review by MARK Burns on August 20, 2019

The AT Pro is a good machine. The problem is when you working the beach from dry sand to wet, you have to keep adjusting the ground balance. Once it's ground balance it works well in the wet sand.

Great but ....

Review by ButchB on August 20, 2019

Great detector with some flaws. It needs waterproof headphones . Suffers from erratic signals at times ( seems to be a common problem )

AT pro Great Detector

Review by Steve on August 20, 2019

The AT Pro is by far the best Detector that I have ever used, and I've been swinging a machine for about 35 years. Love this Detector.

Really Versatile

Review by Tom on August 20, 2019

I have had this detector for two years now, and it is my go to detector (I have three different brands). It is very versatile. I have used in in fresh water lakes and rivers, salt water by the ocean, to high black sand areas, and where there is a lot of trash. I continue to find what I am searching for. I would recommend this to beginners as well as people who have used a detector for many years, like me.

Great Detector!

Great machine

Review by Big John on August 20, 2019

I have had many machines but this is the best all around machine for the money. I learned about the Pro by watching Nuggetnoggin. I also have watched many other detectorists on You-Tube and many of them use the Pro. I bought my AT-Pro from Kellyco a few years ago and have loved it. I have found relics and coins and some trash but loved the hunt.

Great detector!

Review by Mark on August 20, 2019

More than happy with the purchase of this detector. This is my third one, and the best so far. Most of my detecting is in the beach, and I’m pleased with the performance.

Great starter machine

Review by Diggin Chick on August 16, 2019

This is a solid good machine. Not to difficult to learn, and great for a beginner at a decent price. I use it for my seeded hunts with the small coil and score tons of booty. Can't go wrong unless your a seasoned detectorist, then I would suggest the AT Max.

Outstanding machine

Review by Moonshine on August 10, 2019

I would recommend this machine to anyone! Machine is tough and is great in finding coins and relics! Priced right so most people can afford it.

THE "best"

Still the most versatile detector out there!

Review by Digging with Seven on June 08, 2019

I bought an AT Pro when they first came out and still own two of them. I have found literally thousands of relics and coins with this machine. The majority of my Diggin with Seven videos on YouTube have been made using the AT Pro. I’ve owned and used several detectors over the past 44 years of detecting, and have several in my arsenal now, but if I was forced to keep only one detector, it would be the AT Pro... hands down!

Great detector but the headphones need work.

Review by Phil on June 29, 2018

The Garrett AT Pro is a great metal detector for both coin shooting and relic hunting. It works well in most environments although I found it to be kind of touchy in salt water in the transitions between wet and dry. I have enjoyed mine for much more than a year with no real problems My only complaint is with the headphones. I use them when I am in a noisy environment or when I don't want to disturb others in the area. Otherwise I hunt without them. The O-ring connector is extremely difficult to plug into the machine and often takes me as much as 5 minutes to seat properly. Also, since the headphones themselves are not waterproof, I have to be extremely careful when using them in the water to be sure that the way too short cable doesn't pull them off and dump them in the water when I am busy trying to retrieve a target. If Garrett would improve their headphones, it would have a perfect mid price range machine.

None Like the AT Pro for the Money and Performance

Review by Heavyduty on February 06, 2018

Very good on coins, gold and silver or clad. I like it for the Civil War relics I have found, and it's good on brass, lead, bullets, buckles and buttons. Very good at deleting trash and finding what you are looking for, sometimes the foil will fool you, but watch your numbers and dig. Good hunting and always deal with the good guys at Kellyco. They are the best.

A Great Metal Detector

Review by Terry on October 22, 2017

I have to say it's a good metal detector. I'm still learning to use it, but not bad for my third time out, 2 Mercury Head Dimes and 3 Wheat Back Pennies. I have also found a lot of other newer coins. I can't complain.

My AT Pro Comes Through For Me Today

Review by Jeffrey on October 14, 2017

I have been pounding the ground with my AT Pro for about a year now upgrading from an Ace 350. The AT Pro has put me on a Seated dime,a few Barbers,a few Merc's and today...finally...it banged out the dime that that had been eluding me. A 1951D Roosevelt was snatched from the earth. The AT Pro was finally able to put me on the newest of the silver dimes that had for me, been the hardest to find. You just can't go wrong when you buy an AT Pro!

Excellent Detector with a Few Minor Flaws

Review by David on August 19, 2017

Easy to use and spans the gap between basic detectors and professional detectors. I have found a lot of "treasure" with my AT Pro - even in heavily trashed areas. For thorough searches, a good set of headphones are a must. Here is one issue with the AT Pro, the detector requires headphones with a waterproof connector. The set supplied with the AT Pro are not waterproof and are not comfortable with the cord being too short. Changing batteries is also an issue with the cumbersome waterproof battery pack and almost invisible polarity markings. The connectors to the detector head are difficult to access if you have large fingers. Otherwise, the AT Pro meets all of my requirements for a general purpose metal detector. PS: Garrett or third party suppliers should make an inexpensive waterproof to 1/4 " adapter!!

Unbelieveable Machine!!!

Review by Chris on August 14, 2017

I started the hobby with the Garrett Ace 250 and just recently upgraded to the AT Pro. I have been back to a park that I hunted quite extensively with my Ace 250 and I was finding things that I had walked over!! Absolutely love this machine and glad I bought it!! Cannot say enough good things about the AT Pro. If you are looking for a great machine look no further!!!

Finds in a Hunted Out Location

Review by Rob on June 25, 2017

I love this detector! I called my friend that owns property with a house that was built in the 1860's to see if I could search his property. He said the land had been previously searched by 4 other metal detectorist's, of which 2 where "hard core" and said the land was hunted out and filled with trash but I was welcome to try. In 3 hours I found a one cent coin from 1848, a sterling silver spoon or fork handle patented in 1876 with an amazing griffon design, a 5 cent trading token and a yet to be identified copper coin or token along with assorted buckles . And I've only searched 2 acres out of 20. I love the discrimination options and the ability to change frequencies. The nearby power lines were really making the machine chirp and bing like crazy until I read the manual and changed the frequencies. After that, it was like the power lines weren't even there. I have another friend with property dating back to the 1850's that's reportedly never been searched. I can't wait to to use the Garrett AT Pro there.

Bucket List Buster!!!

Review by Joe on May 30, 2017

I have had the AT Pro for about 4 months. It has lead me to my best detecting finds to date. With optimal soil conditions, the machine can detect 8 inches easily. The best machine for the amount of money. Another great thing about the AT Pro, is that there are many options for aftermarket coils made to fit it.

The AT Pro is Incredible

Review by Franchesky on May 27, 2017

I bought the AT Pro about a month ago and I put it to the test. Performs strong in salt and lake water.
Took a bit of reading, research, and going out on the field to get used to the detector but that's all the fun part.
I found 2 rings and lots of coins in the past 30 days and look forward to find more. I strongly recommend the AT Pro to anyone.

Amazing Machine!

Review by Joseph on May 12, 2017

I've only had my AT Pro for a couple days and I'm already finding things I've missed in my back yard. Everything from buffalo nickels to small silver earrings. I'm going to have a blast with this machine. It's a huge step up from the Bounty Hunter TK4.

Just What the Doctor Ordered

Review by David on March 11, 2017

The assembly of the detector was a little difficult - the waterproof plugs require good lighting and flexible fingers. Other than that, using the AT Pro was a pleasant experience. After viewing the CD video twice, I went immediately into Pro Mode. The depth and separation were amazing. I found a gold ring the first day out in an area that I detected many times with my ACE 350. I also found coins at 8" + depths (especially dimes) that my ACE 350 didn't detect. There is one caveat - you must dig deeper holes ! The trash discrimination is also very good with the AT Pro in Pro Mode. I can't wait for the weather to warm up here around Pittsburgh. I also use the Garrett Pin Pointer II - much more stable than the original pin pointer. The AT Pro is a cut above the ACE series detectors and is worth the extra dollars.

ATP is a Great Machine

Great Buy

Review by Waverider on August 18, 2016

Bought a Garrett All Terrain back in June 2016 and it is non-stop coin collecting on Oahu. Surprise find so far is a silver ring, an earring and a Hawaiian necklace, all within 2 months. Guys... I gotta say mahalo to your product and keep up the good work!!! Aloha

Great Detector - Love It!

Review by Steve S. on August 11, 2016

As a novice user just starting out in detecting, I did a ton of research on brands and options and weighed those against the type of detecting I would be doing mostly here in Western WA. It all came down to ease of use and versatility, and the AT Pro delivers! Assembly and setup was a breeze, and although it came with a manual and a DVD, I also watched all the training videos on the Garrett website for some extra guidance too. My first trip to a small local beach had me finding coins in minutes. Yep, I found the usual bottle caps, and other trashy stuff too, but fine tuning my Iron and Notch Discrimination settings could easily weed out the bad "hits", focusing only on the good stuff. Took the 60 days SAC financing option here at Kellyco (which was a really smooth experience btw), got fast shipping, and Kellyco's Stevie Ray is an excellent resource for anything you want to know about detecting with a Garrett AT-series unit.

Best I've Used Yet

Review by Amy on June 01, 2016

This detector is great for all stages of users; beginners or seasoned. I thought long and hard before my purchase, and it was very worth it. Not only did I receive my shipment within 2 days, but having the backing of this company is amazing. The detector has already proven itself with my first trip out and an amazing find of a 1953 silver half dollar. It targets on point, and I'm actually favoring the number read out for the target ID compared to the target ID of the White's Prism IV I had been using. It has located many finds in a place I've searched with my dad numerous times over the past couple years with two different machines. I'm excited that it can be taken into water, so I will certainly be hitting the beach this year. Don't let a possible learning curve scare you away from this amazing detector.

Superb Detector

Review by Jim on April 04, 2016

Forget people who tell you this is TOO COMPLICATED for beginners. It is one of the easier machines to work with beginner OR pro. It has just the right size coil for the majority of detecting and has the ability to use different coils to tailor it to a specific search criteria. Couple that with an extremely short learning curve and you have a sure bet when it comes to finding the 'good stuff'. Add an additional bonus of buying from KELLYCO and you simply can't lose. Excellent machine, Excellent Company.

Review by Richard M on March 29, 2016

This unit is as good as it gets! It takes little time to adjust and off you go detecting. It has excellent depth even in our highly mineralized soil. The gauge gives you all the information needed to find your target. I like all types of treasure hunting and it does it all. If there was anything that I would change on the detector it would be that it was just a little lighter and that's not to say it's heavy because it's not. I also own a machine from down under and this unit is much much easier to learn and use! Garrett has really done their homework. Outstanding job Garrett!

AT Pro

Review by Jeffery D on March 25, 2016

With the AT Pro I have found a little bit of everything. Love it.

Great Mid-Priced Detector

Review by Gene on March 21, 2016

I've used the AT Pro for about 3 years now. I have had very good success hunting the tot lots and parks. The AT Pro really excels in trashy areas with the 5x8" coil. I went over areas "hunted out" using the small coil. I was very impressed with the coins I picked up. I did lose some depth, but I solved that problem by purchasing a NEL 9.5x5.5" sharpshooter coil. I retained the ability to separate trash from good targets as well as gaining the depth. Last coin I found was a dime at 8". I like being able to hunt during light rain or snow if I am on a coin streak. This machine really turned out to be a real winner.

Awesome!!

Review by Ellie on February 12, 2016

Best buy ever!! I started with the Garrett Ace 250 and worked my way up. Couldn't ask for a better machine! Within the first month I am finding gold!! Yeah buddy!! AT Pro is an awesome machine!!

Good n Bad

Review by John D on January 15, 2016

Wife got me one for Xmas. The first thing I dug up was a 1936 silver half dollar. Not trash but that. Then lo and behold an 1802 large cent penny. It read a solid 82 in a 93 ground balance. Then I started to notice aluminum cans were also a solid 82. Pro mode helps but sometimes you gotta make that call on digging or not. The main complaint I have with the AT Pro is its poor ability to separate aluminum. I found this very frustrating when working trashy areas. But 2 days later I took it out in the front yard and found a War of 1812 state fencibles battalion medallion with 'spectamur agendo' on the back dated 1813. So in general it's a good detector, just avoid trashy areas. Any ideas on the medallion would be helpful... Thanks and happy dirt fishing.

The Best Detector I've Ever Owned

Review by Richard K on May 26, 2015

I have owned many detectors over the years including the most expensive. The AT Pro is by far the easiest user friendly detector of them all. I have located hundreds of rings... yes... hundreds since buying my first AT Pro back in or near 2011.

Awesome Machine

Review by Philip K on May 27, 2014

I took the AT Pro out to a school I detect a lot. I know its been detected over and over again. With the AT Pro I started finding deep coins, wheat pennies, quarters and a 10k gold ring. Well worth the money.

AT Pro

Review by Doug M on May 09, 2014

One detector well worth the money. It is simply an awesome machine. Have used on land and in sea. Very capable of both worlds. When it says there is a certain coin on the register, over ninety five percent of the time it is correct. Just certain large items will fool it. Kellyco is a great company to deal with. Have dealt with them for many years. They know customer service.

AT Pro

Review by Lynne P on February 25, 2014

Talked into a detector I did not want. Far too heavy for this 80 years young man. $1000+. Kept it for about a year and then after lots of review, the AT Pro seemed to be the answer. Received at 5:00 PM and the following morning was out to an area I had worked and worked and worked. In 5 hours I had pulled up 152 coins. Yes, 152 coins. All clad, but what a difference in detectors. Half the weight and I could nave continued for a couple of more hours had the wife not called me on my cell and said to get home. She needed the car I live just 9 miles from the coast here in Florida and can't wait to get out there at the proper tide time. Y'all just keep "dirt fishing"!!

AT Pro

Review by Tom R on January 20, 2014

Not for the first time user. Works great as do all GARRETT Detectors. First time metal detector user should only use STD. MODE SET FOR COINS. It works great in this mode. Yes you will find pull tabs, caps, alum. - all detectors WILL. WATCH THE VIDEO.
(about me - 43 years using metal detectors. First one was a GARRETT BFO " LOL" - BUT IT WORKED GOOD)

AT Pro vs. Minelab Safari

Review by Stan B on September 03, 2013

I have been using a Minelab Safari for 2 years. My wife has been using an AT Pro. EVERY time we beach hunt, she blasts me in terms of number of finds!!!! Yesterday - me 8 her 32. We switched detectors today, I with the AT Pro and her with the Safari - me 42 and her 4. Need I say any more about how good the AT Pro is???

Garrett AT Pro

Review by David L on August 28, 2013

I have had my AT Pro for about 4 months now. I have been very pleased with this unit. It has found a lot of clad coins, rings, keys and a silver dime. Put the time in to get to know the machine. I continue to dig less caps and tabs all the time and when I do I usually know that is probably what it will be. There have been coins found at over 10 inches. It has found a lot of old pennies and is a great nickel machine. If you go over something you won't miss it. We have 3 machines and continually compare them on the objects we find. This machine is right on!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1st Time User

Review by Christopher C on August 23, 2012

I am a new first time user of a metal detector and after shopping around I decided on buying an AT Pro because of it's versatility and easy to understand display. I like that it can be used in the water and is light enough to be used for hours at a time. After opening the box and getting right to detecting I haven't been disappointed. The accessories that came with the AT Pro helped me in the field and the Relic Quest book was a very nice read. Thanks to Garrett for making such a quality machine :D
