My first detector

Review by Fivespot on August 16, 2019

This is really a fantastically easy detector to learn and use. I've found countless coins, jewelry, and just a few can tabs. LOL! Don't let anyone tell you this is a toy or just a kids detector. There are more advanced machines that you may grow into once you have honed your skills and types of hunting you want to do but, you will not be disappointed with this machine. I only recently upgraded from this machine but, I will be keeping this as a great backup.

Better than Expected

Review by Cointracker on March 20, 2017

Had ACE 150 for three weeks now. Found some coins and relics with it. At first I had purchased as a way for my son and I to get off the couch and introduce him to a new hobby, so a beginner machine was ideal for us. After testing it on coins down to eight inches or so, I would say we are surprised how deep it goes. Just keep in mind max sensitivity on all metal mode is required, and you will get an iron tone. That said, I think it will be fine on the beach and the parks and less trashy sites. I saw a review where this model beat out a much more expensive model by a different manufacturer, so I feel it deserves a great review having researched and field tested the unit. I look forward to continuing to put the ACE 150 through the paces.

To say that you make it easy to purchase and use your products is an understatement. I started using my Garret Ace150 about 1 year ago and have found over 100 clad coins in my own yard (No Joke). I have some other finds but nothing of real value, the exercise is reward enough. This is truly a great product at a great price. I have found that if it says coin it is a coin. It is easy to use. I am getting ready to move up to the 250 real soon, and I will pass the 150 to my grandson. I will be making my next purchase from Kellyco as well. Thanks for a great product.

First Metal Detector

Review by Ben N on April 17, 2014

I just got my Garrett today and was so excited to get it, it felt like I was a kid on Christmas morning. I never had a metal detector before. A couple of the guys I work with have them so I took their advice and went with the 150. I used it today for about 2 hours and found a penny, a dime and some pop cans lol. But I am addicted. The Garrett is light weight, easy to use and put together right out of the box. On another note my order shipped Monday and I got it Wednesday, awesome fast shipping on Kellyco's part. I will always recommend Kellyco to anyone - best price and I also got lots of extras for free.

Begining Treasure Hunter

Review by James W on May 31, 2013

I give this product 5 stars based on the price and the fact that this product just does what it is supposed to do! I have not found anything of real value yet but if it is there this thing will find it, provided it is not much deeper than 6 inches. I am also into archery and at 150 bucks I thought that it would be worth the price just to find lost arrows. Yes there are better detectors out there but I'm convinced you will not find a better one for the price anywhere. I'm 36 years old and this is my first detector and after one week I can say that I'm hooked!

Great First Detector for My Son

Review by David L on May 14, 2013

I ordered this for my son's 13th birthday, and so far, he has had a blast with it. Although we have not taken it on an official dig yet, we've had it at my childhood home, where he has found a couple of mid 70's coins, one of my old die cast toy planes, and some brass rifle shells, all of which were 4-8 inches deep. His level of excitement, and eagerness to get back out with it has been a real pleasure. I've taught him how to distinguish trash from treasure, and how to pin point with an x pattern. I highly recommend this model for a beginning child.

I love my Ace 150, simple to use. I found a Rosy, and three early pennies my first time out. I ordered a carry bag and the dust and rain cover... and just yesterday a Super Sniper coil for primarily coin shooting. Kellyco is the best for all your questions and products... Friendly and extremely knowledgeable. GOOD HUNTING.

Garrett Ace 150 Rocks!!!!!!!

Review by Declan R on August 23, 2012

I got the Garrett Ace 150 a couple of days ago. It works like a champ so far. I found coins and really old nails in my back yard. It is great for beginners. I was happy to find out it was made in the U.S.A!!!!!

I got my Ace 150 in September and found lots of modern coins right up until the snow flew. Today, 4-3-2011, was the first day I've been able to get out without much snow on the ground. I decided to mess around a bit in my back yard and I dug my first great find, an 1842 small date large cent!!! I've been thrilled with the Ace 150's performance since the day I got it and for the money, you won't find a better metal detector anywhere! I would recommend this fine detector to anyone that wants to go metal detecting on a budget and for service, Kellyco is tops! A definite 5 stars from me!!

I found the Ace 150 easy to use. It works great at detecting coins, but if you aren't careful it will label aluminum and heavy steel pieces as coins. If you turn the sensitivity up too high you may get some false readings. However it pinpoints pretty accurately if you sweep it in a cross pattern after you find a target. The depth indicator is pretty accurate as well. It is easy to learn to use and is easy on batteries. All in all a good buy for the money.

Coming from a beginner’s point of view... The Ace 150 is easy to use; simply push the power button and go. Now in all fairness I did read about two paragraphs in the instruction manual, but really two paragraphs and I was ready to give it a go. I haven't had the chance to put this detector to the test. However first opening the box it was very simple to assemble. Within 15 minutes I had my first find worth any amount of money. A 1977 nickel, just so happens that was the year I was born. I'm hoping that is a good omen. The features are easy to use and simple to change back and forth depending upon what you are looking for. I would absolutely recommend this detector for beginners.

This was my first metal detector from my Garrett (Ace 150). I have used Bounty Hunters before but this is a great machine for people who just want to turn it on and go. This is a very easy machine to use. In less then 5 minutes you can go out and start finding coins and rings. So far I have found about $15.00 in coins. The best are a 1994 New York subway token and a mint coin (buff nickel). I did get the pinpointer kit. This will help so I don't have to dig as much. I have also found my best find, which is a gold nugget in a small river in CT. The Garrett 150 is a great starter machine and I hope to move up to a better one soon. I can tell you it will be one from Garrett and bought from Kellyco. I would recommend the Ace 150 to anyone who is looking to start metal detecting. It is very easy to use and with the 6.5x9" coil it does go deeper than 6 inches. I have made finds at about 8 to 10 inches. Thank you Kellyco!

My Garrett Ace 150 arrived on 04/09/09, and not even two minutes out of the box and I found two quarters in a small patch of grass near my truck! It was 1 - 2 inches down and then about 5 inches down. It is a great machine. It is very easy to use, light and comfortable.

I got the Garrett Ace 150 for Christmas and it was a really good detector for a really, really cheap price! I had opened it and I had assembled the detector and it was easy to assemble! The control box on the detector consisted of three-easy ways to find those lost treasures. I was surprised to see how easy it was to use! Mine came with a 9.5" coil used for deep and old targets. I haven't used it yet because there is about 2 feet of snow on the ground but I'm really confident about it. This detector is great for all ages that are waiting to discover the unidentified or old relics and coins! So 5 stars to the Garret Ace 150!

The Garrett Ace 150 was the easiest metal detector to find coins and jewelry that I have ever used to date! That is no joke. In local Centennial Park, I found two gold rings (one with diamonds), in the play area! I also found ground up rubber tires underneath. This is the best I have ever done in the first five minutes. I am finding gold everywhere! In the last 50 years, I've used metal detectors. The bell tone for coins has greatly improved! The five cent tone for gold recovered is better! My friend and I recovered (in the play areas in 1 and 1/2 hours) $15.34, two gold rings, and two toy cars. With gold at near $1,000 ounce, what could be better?

Thanks again for the swell detector! The Garrett Ace 150 was well worth the hundred and some spent to receive the detector. It's fully paid for in the first one and a half hours.

The Garrett Ace 150 is a beginner level detector and sells for about $150. The Ace 150 is a very easy detector to use and is great for a beginner or first time detectorist. The Ace 150 is very lightweight (about 3 pounds) and is pretty durable. When I first got my Ace 150 I was able to turn it on, do a quick bench test, and start detecting. I quickly found 3 dimes and a quarter!

What I like about the Ace 150 is the big LCD screen. The LCD screen shows the mode, sensitivity, and the depth chart. The Ace 150 also has touch pad buttons. I also like the Ace 150's three levels of Tone ID. The Tone ID definitely is a time saver. It helps save time because the Ace 150 will emit a different tone when it has detected a good target or a bad target. This way you spend more time hunting good targets and less time hunting trash. I also found pinpointing to be pretty easy with the Ace 150. All you have to do is make an "X" pattern with the detector and the target should be directly in the middle. This does take some practice but once you get it you will be finding targets within a couple of centimeters. I think that a pinpointing button would make this a lot easier.

What I don't really like about the Ace 150 is that the depth meter is not the most reliable feature on the Ace 150. One time I hit a target that read at 4 inches. After a lot of digging, I eventually found a dime at about 6 inches. With the Ace 150, I found about $3 in change, a silver necklace chain and a couple of chunks of metal. The Ace 150 takes very little time to tune and get used to making it one of the best beginner detectors there are. I give the Ace 150 4 stars because it lacks a pinpointing button, but overall this is a great detector!

I have always had a fascination with treasure. It is out there, you just need the tools. I used to have a GTAX 550 until I broke my back and damaged my sciatic nerve. Now, I have an Ace 150, which my children use. It is a good detector for the beginner and my kids use it for coins around the park and ball fields. Before my injury we would go into the hills (Black Hills) and nugget hunt with the 550, which in my opinion was wonderful!

The Black Hills is famous for its history, and it’s gold! The mines are all closed up now but the mother load is still out there according to the old timers. French Creek is where gold was first discovered in the hills, and I have had luck panning down stream, I could only wish to have a detector like this White’s. I’ve seen a demo of it at Black Hills Prospectors (which is no longer open), and the depth and discrimination of this model is outstanding!

I was very impressed, being a Garrett user for years I could only imagine how it would work in the field. There are a few sites that I would love to take the kids, Fort Meade is one. General Custer camped here before heading out to his last battle, Little Bighorn. I'm sure if I still had my 550, the kids and I could unearth a lot of history. The Ace 150 just does not have what it takes to search the depth of most relics, but is fine for coin shooting, which is what the kids use it for.

So, I can wish to have a detector such as this White’s DFX not so much for myself, but so my kids can really find something from the past, from days gone by buried for years, just waiting to be unearthed.

I have been metal detecting for about 20 years and have tried a lot of makes, but find that the Garrett Ace 150 is as good as any. It is easy to use and just plain fun. I have bought 3 detectors from Kellyco and plan to buy more. As long as I have grand kids that want to try it. I have found many old coins, a barrel of old bones, and many items in Florida and Maine. Please don't change the Ace 150. If I wanted that cost more detector, I would buy it, but the Ace 150 has all I would ever want and need.

Review by Larry B on April 08, 2008

I bought this detector and it's a great buy for the money! It only took me a few minutes to set the detector up and I was able to search for coins and other items very, very quickly starting with my front yard where I found 5 pennies, one nickel, 2 dimes, 2 quarters which were at least 6 or 7 inches in the ground, an old religious medal, and some strange pieces of metal I haven't identified yet.

This metal detector is very easy to use and took me only one reading of the instructions to qualify me as an experienced treasure hunter. This is my first metal detector and I am very happy with everything about it and would recommend it to anyone wanting to have some fun and find different treasure. Searching for years with many finds, I generally coin hunt. Some old coins being found, just one of them is an 1866 2 cent piece found off an old mill site just outside Columbia, Missouri.

I purchased the Garrett Ace 150 metal detector as my first detector. I had always been an outdoors person and loved exploring. I chose the Ace 150 because of its cheap price, selling around $150, and its big easy to read digital LCD screen. When I received the Ace 150 I quickly watched the included instructional DVD.

Even though the Ace 150 is one of the most affordable metal detectors out there it out preforms like many detectors 3 times its cost. The Ace 150 is very light to hold and I even was able to pack it in my luggage! The Ace 150 has a pretty cool LCD screen that shows the coin depth, coin modes and sensitivity. Another great thing about the Ace 150 is the Tone ID feature. The Tone ID feature helps identify different metal objects. When the detector is over a coin the Ace 150 will beep differently than when it is over a pull tab or scrap. The depth meter is pretty accurate but is not always correct. The size of the object being detected sometimes screws with the LCD indicator. It may show a coin at 6 inches, when its actually only 2 inches down.

With the Ace 150 I found about 200 coins and some old relics. The Ace 150 is a great detector for a first time detectorist or part time hobbyist, who wants a very cheap, easy to use detector with cool features. I would give the Ace 150 four stars!

The Ace 150 is a nice beginner unit that not only is an exciting attractive bright yellow, it stays the course and does the job with precision and simplicity. The 3 buttons and easy to read gauge makes it so easy a child could use it and find treasures instead of frustration. Turn it on, set the mode from all metal, jewelry or coins. Middle button sets ground discrimination, and off you go. I have had many successful trips to the beach using this machine, even though it was my sons birthday gift. It is light and comfortable in the grip, one can root for hours without arm fatigue. A definite plus for Garrett.

I like to search for relics and coins at historic sites. The Garrett Ace 150 is a good all around detector that works okay on the sand and on the land. I find a lot of coins, relics, and of course a lot of rusty junk. It costs around $170 and makes a good beginner detector. Some features include a digital screen covered in a hard plastic the won't break, target ID, a target depth reading up the side of the screen that isn't always accurate, hunting modes for jewelry, coins, and relics, and adjustable sensitivity.

The only real problem that I've had with this detector is pinpointing. To find the target you almost have to dig a hole the size of the coil! The Target ID feature is almost always correct which is great. The detector can be easily disassembled and stuffed into a backpack which is great for anyone who bikes to their hunting spot. It comes with a two year warranty but I have never heard of an Ace ever breaking. All and all, the Ace 150 is far from the best and I would only recommend it to people looking for a cheap detector that still performs well. If you want to buy an Ace 150 I would recommend buying a sniper coil with the detector. If I were to buy a new detector I would probably buy the Ace 250 instead or perhaps a detector put out by a different brand. But remember, no matter what detector you purchase, you are pretty much guaranteed to find neat things and have fun.

I first found the Ace 150 online with Kellyco. The sporty design, toughness of the coil and excellent reviews let me know it would be an awesome entry level detector. I ordered it from Kellyco's website and it came by UPS within 3-5 days!! I was so excited to see the box; it was like being a kid on Christmas morning. I quickly opened it to discover Kellyco had included a trowel, headphones, and treasure finding book for free!!! Then, I quickly and easily opened the detector and put it together within 15 minutes! It was amazing to see such an affordable detector that looked so good. Examining the controls, it was so user friendly with yellow push buttons. All I had to do was push on and go!! The easily readable controls allowed me to set for the kind of items I wanted. Being a coin collector, I set up the factory default which was perfect for finding coins.

My first run, I took it out in the front yard and within the first 20 minutes I had solid coin tone, looking at the LCD I saw the depth was 2 inches and indicated coins!! I then targeted and started digging to find a Canadian cent!! Even more amazing, I found a U.S. penny five inches over! At first, the display and tones would go crazy, then I began to read about setting your controls for different environments. I soon learned that I was living in a "highly mineralized" environment which meant I had to tune down my sensitivity settings. Upon doing so, I immediately heard a solid jewelry tone and LCD reading. My mind was racing thinking about the potential for a ring or a bracelet. Then I began to target it so I would know exactly where to dig by using the x method. This involved swinging my coil in an X pattern, which worked like a charm! The moment of truth, I broke out my trowel and proceeded to dig for a good ten minutes and there it was... It wasn't a coin and it wasn't jewelry either. Upon pulling out a triangle like piece of metal with writing on it, on the top appeared a brass plate.

I will never forget my very first detector. I went to an outdoor show and when I left, I was the proud owner of a pre-discrimination Garrett (model # forgotten). I took it home, read all the directions repeatedly, and finally was ready to detect. Took it out, turned it on and started detecting. To this day, I never would have thought that there was so much underground. It was a good detector, it found EVERYTHING. I found a few coins, I also found other things, as a very small bit of rust that was very hard to see. I only hunted with this detector for a relative short time, when I decided that I didn't really want to find EVERYTHING!!!

My detector is an Ace 150. It is a good coin detector, because in my first month I found 7 coins of Benito Juarez from 1943, later I found an Octavo de Reale from 1842 and some bullets. I like the different sound the best, the bell tone means you find coins or aluminum. It is very good and nice and easy. I hunt in different places - parks, beaches, mountains and is excellent. My last find is an ancient Idolo that has the face of a monkey-Sherpa.

I bought a new Garrett Ace 150 for my birthday last January. Actually, my wife bought it for me. Naturally, we got it from Kellyco. I love the detector; it’s easy to use and lightweight. My biggest disappointment is that it detects lots of pull tabs and screw caps as coins or jewelry. I spend a lot of time at a local park that was a beach resort back in the early 1900's. I have found lots of coins (all modern) and a couple of cheap rings and a fire opal earring. The problem with this park is that it is very popular and the county brings in loads of sand each year to maintain the beach area. According to locals, the original beach is about nine to twelve feet below the current surface.

I also have another park close by that is a county park. The land was donated to the county. It was originally homesteaded in 1878. The house burned down in 1963. However, the area is so overgrown with blackberry bushes that I can't even get to the house site. I'm sure that if I could, I should be able to find some good stuff. I have located a couple of different trash dump areas. There, I found some old, rusty, nearly disintegrated jar lids and broken glass. I've also found some pieces of unidentifiable metal pieces. I suspect they are from some sort of farm tools.

This summer, I plan on detecting a couple of 1870's era churches and school yards in the Yakima and Wenatchee, WA. I really enjoy metal detecting and probably spend ten to twenty hours a week enjoying my hobby. I'm retired, so I have the time and the opportunity. Thanks!

I bought the Garrett Ace 150 primarily for my eight and a half year old son who accompanies me on many of my weekend and summer hunts and was getting bored with just tagging along. The machine was quick and easy to assemble. I think it took me ten minutes at most and it came pre-loaded with batteries. The Ace 150 surprised me rather quickly with it's very light weight and it is easy to use. It really is a press the "on" button and go hunt machine.

We tested in the backyard before and after dinner. I had brought down a silver quarter, silver dime, IH and a copper Lincoln cent that I was going to hide so he could have some targets to practice on. Well, he didn't need them. We found a nickel down about five inches, a memorial cent at about three inches, a tiny copper rivet that was down deep and some other junk metal. These were all items that my other, much more expensive other brand detector must have missed. I won't say my backyard is "hunted out" but I will say I have pounded it. So, I must say I am pretty impressed with the new machine. On the downside, it takes a little longer to find a target without the pinpointing capability but not too much longer. This was something I was aware of before I bought the machine so this was not a surprise to me. At this point, I could not afford to spend more on a machine for him but I think I got the best possible bang for the buck.

This review is on my very first detector, the Garrett Ace 150. I still use this detector on a regular basis. I've found enough coins with this detector to actually pay for the new Garrett Ace 250, which I purchased this past year. The Ace 150 was finding coins for the very instant I started using it. The search was just the right size for searching out coins and jewelry. I've used this in almost every condition one can use a detector in. It works great on the beach as well as in school yards and open fields. I would recommend this detector for beginners. In fact I have started my thirteen year old grandson using this very model. He actually likes it more than my new one. He also started finding coins right off the get go.

I used this detector to locate a platinum ring for a doctor who had lost it while attending his sons’ baseball game. He gave me his name and address, and then I left to return to the spot he lost his ring. After about a half hour search, I found it in four inch high grass. I then boxed it up and sent to the good doctor. He was kind enough in turn to reward me with a check for a hundred dollars. I have also found a hearing aid at the local school yard. When I turned that into the school, they matched it up to a young lady that had lost it. I got a great thank you card which was worth more than money. I was so happy that she got it back. The family wasn't very well off, and getting the hearing aid back was a blessing to them.

My first purchase of an Ace 150 metal detector was for my 16 year old daughter. I wound up catching the bug, however. My favorite place to detect was on a former Catholic school playground. While detecting, I even had a police officer stop. It turned out he was a treasure hunter as well. We shared a few stories and developed a new friendship. I loved the discrimination feature of this model the best. A friend from work borrowed it from me and found a class ring in a planter of his front yard. He was able to return the ring to it's rightful owner, but alas had to temporarily give up hunting due to a knee replacement surgery.

I would recommend this detector for the discrimination function in particular, as it saves a lot of precious time which may have been wasted digging up aluminum. I also helped a friend to find his property markers which he was unable to do visually alone. They were about 2 inches underground when we went searching for them. It saved having to hire a surveyor to come remark the lot lines, and ended boundary disputes between he and his neighbors. My preference is to find old jewelry with my detector, however to date I haven't found any. I think a waterproof model is in the near future. It will fit in well with my love for Summertime beach activities, and the festivals that many communities hold in the summer time. This model was fairly easy to set with the use of a couple coins and a pull tab, it was very easy to distinguish junk.

The manufacturer model number didn't go quite far back enough to include my Treasure Ace 100. It was quite a lark when my brother gave me this very simple machine because years before we lost our Garrett Hunter. I say years because I bought the first machine in 1969. Over 30 years went by before the little Ace 100 came around. At first it was frustrating to operate because I didn't do any reading or experiment with the machine. However, just last Saturday we both decided to take the machine seriously and paid close attention to the single knob for discrimination and the sounds that it made when it came in contact with a good target. What a blast!! With the knob just over the nickel setting it would beep once for junk but give off a nice clear double beep for coins and other stuff that I didn't mind digging up. I can't wait to go try my luck again with this neat little machine. It's not fancy but a heck of a lot of fun to play with. One of these days I hope to be able to afford an MXT to look for coins and relics and to finally do a little prospecting up in the Mother Lode...

This will be the first full summer I have to use my Ace 150. I have one other detector that I used at the end of last season and so far I have enjoyed the Ace 150's ease of operation. I mostly use it at the beach area where I live and am still trying to get the hang of it but so far I have found about $50.00 worth of change and the usual other stuff one would expect to find on a beach. Since I am new to this I have concentrated on the coins in the easiest place I could think to find them, and I don't really want to dig cans and stuff like that so I have probably missed some good items in the process. This summer I plan to dig more stuff that I'm not sure about and really try to learn the machine to get the most out of it. I think the Ace 150 is a great starter machine as it is easy to use and gives you enough features to be useful but not too many to confuse a new user. The best feature to me is how it tells you what you are digging, or at least gives you a good idea about what it is that you'll digging. I would have to say that if someone is just starting out it would be a great detector to get as it will do everything a beginner needs and would be good for someone who just wants to turn it on and go without much fooling around with a really complex machine.

I'm new to the metal detector hobby, so to start out I bought the Ace 150 because of the ease of operation. Well, it has been a ball! I've had no trouble using it and have already found numerous coins and other things!

After a trip to the doctor 2 years ago, I found out I had high blood pressure, so the doctor told me I needed to lose a few pounds. I bought my Ace 150 to get me out of the house and get some much needed exercise. On my first day out, I was really impressed with the performance of the Ace. I turned on the machine, set it in jewelry mode and started searching a local school yard and the results were amazing. I found $2 in clad coins, one wheat penny and two ladies Avon rings.

Not bad for a low priced detector. Since then I have found hundreds of clad and silver coins and 5 other rings, including a wedding ring a lady lost on our trip to the beach. I searched for less than five minutes in the dry sand before getting a signal. The meter was bouncing between nickel and pull tab. I dug down about 3 inches and pulled out a beautiful ring encrusted with diamonds. With tears of joy, she and her husband were very thrilled to get the ring back. Seeing their faces was well worth the price I paid for the detector.

I have also lost a few pounds, and my blood pressure has been steadily declining since I started detecting. I highly recommend the Ace 150 detector to beginners and old pros alike. Thanks Garrett for making an affordable machine that has great results!
