Garrett AT Pro Metal Detector

Standard and Pro Audio Modes

The Garrett AT Pro Metal Detectors provides treasure hunters with two beneficial search modes to accurately pinpoint buried targets. The Standard Audio Binary Mode will send a full-strength audio signal regardless of the target's depth. This mode is preferred by the vast majority of treasure hunters who like either the on or off style of response.

For a setting similar to that of the ever popular All Metal Mode, Garrett Metal Detectors has included a proportional (Pro) Audio Mode. The Pro Audio Mode allows the user to "hear" the properties of the target through subtle changes in the tone. The user is then able to determine the buried target's size, shape and depth. As a bonus, it is able to detect adjacent targets which allows for a quicker recovery time.

AT Pro Target Response

Depicted in the above diagram is the sustained audio response in the Standard and Pro Audio Modes. The metal detector using the Standard Binary Audio Mode provides a sustained tone for both the shallow and deep coins. Comparing that to the metal detector using the Pro Audio Mode, the shallow coin emits a strong signal while the deep coin emits a weak signal.

AT Pro Target Info

The above diagram shows that the Standard Binary Audio Mode produces a solitary strong signal from both coins. The Pro Audio Mode on the other hand emits an uneven signal that plateaus on each adjacent coin. This lets the user know there are two separate coins next to each other.

Tone Roll Audio Mode

The Tone Roll Audio Mode was designed by Garrett to help treasure hunters better identify targets, especially those containing iron. While in Standard Binary Audio Mode, a metal detector will emit a solitary sound which will be based on the targets properties. Tone Roll Audio, on the other hand, emits a tone that will vary as it is swept across the target. This variation in tone gives the user more information on the target and allows them to make better judgments on what to dig up as well as what to leave in the ground.

Bottle caps, steel washers and other trashy metals emit high tone responses on a Standard Binary Audio Mode. This is because the shape the metal can sometimes produce readings as if it were a coin. By using the Tone Roll Audio Mode, these types of metals will emit a non-identical sound which will vary from low to high and then back to low again. As it's shown on the diagram to the right, the Standard Binary Audio Mode only emits one high tone while the Pro Audio and Tone Roll Audio Modes produce a sound that varies as it crosses over the target.

AT Pro Water

All-Terrain Versatility

The Garrett AT Pro Metal Detector was designed for treasure hunting in wet, muddy, dusty and humid environments. The device has built-in waterproof housing and connectors that are covered against the elements. It can be submerged in water as high as 10 feet to search along river, shorelines, piers, docks, or even swimming holes.

NOTE : Waterproof headphones (optional item shown in photo to left) must be used if the headphones are immersed in water. Standard headphones provided with AT Pro can not be submerged.

High-Res Iron Discrimination™

Iron discrimination on the Garrett AT Pro Metal Detector can be set by using the (+) or (-) IRON DISC touch-pads. The settings can go from one to forty levels to easily ignore iron trash and find the treasure that you're looking for.

Digital Target ID System

The Digital Target ID System on the Garrett AT Pro Metal Detector includes specific targets values to quickly identify what's buried in the ground below. The screen identifies targets on screen with a number between one and ninety-nine. The most ferrous targets are labeled as a one with the most conductive targets (thick silver) registering closer to ninety-nine.

The brilliance of the Target ID on the Garrett AT Pro's touch-pad is that it can show the precise location of a silver coin up to eight inches in depth. The target ID number on the graphic to the right corresponds with the Upper Scale Target ID Cursor.

AT Pro Digital ID Face

Iron Audio™

The problem with iron objects cluttering a field is that they tend to camouflage the valuable targets and create signals that appear to be good. The Iron Audio feature on the Garrett AT Pro allows the user to "hear" any iron that the device is discriminating. This gives the user a greater understanding of what is below their feet and avoids any unnecessary digging.

The Iron Audio feature lets the user adjust the range on the midpoint to include all targets that are above a certain point of discrimination. This, in effect allows the user to adjust the cut-off between a trash target with a low tone and those with a mid tone.

This is the standard division of low, mid and high tones on the Garrett AT Pro. The Iron Audio on the above graphic is set to OFF.
On this graphic, the iron discrimination is set to 20. Targets that are below 20 are made silent when the Iron Audio setting is OFF.
The targets in this graphic to the right 20 are heard as a low tone when the Iron audio feature is set to ON. The mid tone is now expanded down to 20.

Amazing Machine!

Review by Joseph on May 12, 2017

I've only had my AT Pro for a couple days and I'm already finding things I've missed in my back yard. Everything from buffalo nickels to small silver earrings. I'm going to have a blast with this machine. It's a huge step up from the Bounty Hunter TK4.

Just What the Doctor Ordered

Review by David on March 11, 2017

The assembly of the detector was a little difficult - the waterproof plugs require good lighting and flexible fingers. Other than that, using the AT Pro was a pleasant experience. After viewing the CD video twice, I went immediately into Pro Mode. The depth and separation were amazing. I found a gold ring the first day out in an area that I detected many times with my ACE 350. I also found coins at 8" + depths (especially dimes) that my ACE 350 didn't detect. There is one caveat - you must dig deeper holes ! The trash discrimination is also very good with the AT Pro in Pro Mode. I can't wait for the weather to warm up here around Pittsburgh. I also use the Garrett Pin Pointer II - much more stable than the original pin pointer. The AT Pro is a cut above the ACE series detectors and is worth the extra dollars.

ATP is a Great Machine

Review by Chad on February 08, 2017

I own the ATP, Teknetics T2 SE and a White's V3i. If I'm just going out to coin shoot the ATP is my go to machine. Great lil machine and spot on!!

Great Buy

Review by Waverider on August 18, 2016

Bought a Garrett All Terrain back in June 2016 and it is non-stop coin collecting on Oahu. Surprise find so far is a silver ring, an earring and a Hawaiian necklace, all within 2 months. Guys... I gotta say mahalo to your product and keep up the good work!!! Aloha

Great Detector - Love It!

Review by Steve S. on August 11, 2016

As a novice user just starting out in detecting, I did a ton of research on brands and options and weighed those against the type of detecting I would be doing mostly here in Western WA. It all came down to ease of use and versatility, and the AT Pro delivers! Assembly and setup was a breeze, and although it came with a manual and a DVD, I also watched all the training videos on the Garrett website for some extra guidance too. My first trip to a small local beach had me finding coins in minutes. Yep, I found the usual bottle caps, and other trashy stuff too, but fine tuning my Iron and Notch Discrimination settings could easily weed out the bad "hits", focusing only on the good stuff. Took the 60 days SAC financing option here at Kellyco (which was a really smooth experience btw), got fast shipping, and Kellyco's Stevie Ray is an excellent resource for anything you want to know about detecting with a Garrett AT-series unit.
