What Grandpa Jack Has to Say About Minelab's Excalibur Metal Detector

A year can never go by without welcome visit from "Grandpa Jack" of Georgia. Grandpa Jack has been a long time treasure hunter starting 39 years ago while living in New York City. Famous treasure hunter and writer Carl Von Mueller is credited with bringing Jack into the treasure hunting hobby. Early treasure hunting took place under the famous Coney Island Boardwalk where people would sift for coins and jewelry using homemade sifters of window screens in a wooden frame. Grandpa Jack knew that a treasure detector could do better than a sifter and purchased a war surplus mine detector for $50.00. Weighing a giant 26 pounds did not deter him from accumulating well over 50,000 coins!

Grandpa Jack has owned a large number of metal detectors of various makes and models, the oldest being a Metrotech. But his favorite, "as he says: The Excalibur is the best water and beach detector I have ever owned." Grandpa Jack bought his Excalibur in 1999 (from Kellyco of course) and says "there is hardly a day of beach hunting where I do not come out with pockets bulging with coins, rings, and jewelry. The Excalibur metal detector is awesome when it comes to finding gold chains, necklaces, bracelets and rings." One Florida beach turned up a ring with 42 diamonds! Estimated value $5,000 plus, an 18 karat gold chain appraised at $3,000.

Grandpa Jack being semi-retired, still detects from early morning through late afternoon. Back home in Georgia, Jack dredges and detects for gold. Loves coming to Florida where he has become quite an expert in mining Florida beaches for their many coin and jewelry treasures. Grandpa Jack says "I go behind other detector users whenever I can. I know they'll pick up mostly modern coins and after they clean surface my Minelab Excalibur 800 gets the deeper older coins and rings. I always pick up gold chains which are missed by almost every detector I search behind. Would I recommend the Minelab Excalibur? Absolutely! Its brought me thousands of hours of fun and enjoyment as well as lots of money and treasures. Anyone of any age can operate the Excalibur and probably do as well as I can. The more you use Minelab's Excalibur metal detector the better you become and the more you find!"
