V3i Finds a 1781 Token
With the first hard frost ready to hit our region I grabbed my V3i with the 6x10 coil and I headed out to a foundation site in the woods near our house. Mostly had the itch to get out and do one last hunt with my White’s V3i before winter settles in.
The area was filled with lots of iron so I switched to relic mode and set audio to mixed mode stereo as I tried to listen for good signals... There was a lot of iron, nails and assorted junk. I received a good signal.
At first I thought it was a large cent but it was a little on the thin side. It was getting dark so I headed home and soaked it in vegetable oil (a suggested method of cleaning). After a good soak I looked at it again and at first though it was play money but then I saw the date.
It is a 1781 North American Token. It is a copper coin though appears silver due to the reflection from the vegetable oil it was soaked in.
