What Remains of a Soldier...

Some time ago while I was patrolling an area ( near where I live ), where in July 1944 U.S. troops have clashed and the German ones, including some splinters my CTX3030 gave me a number of distinct signals that ranged from a 12 -10 to a 14-12. very close .... at a depth of 10-12 cm...

4,000 Year Old Bronze Age Lunula

While out on one of our weekly digs with the Stour Valley Search and Recovery Club, in the heart of the Dorset countryside, I was privileged enough to find a piece of Bronze Age gold, with a possible age to it of approximately 4,000 years. It started like every Club dig with a friendly chat as we all started to arrive and then a quick briefing about the field we were going to detect in. The field was permanent pasture and the Club had visited it several times before. Previously I had only been there once. On that occasion I had only found a couple of small bronze coins and a Georgian halfpenny. As lunch time was approaching my finds b...

Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)

Our club has a monthly outing, this month we went to an old CCC camp near Cave Creek / Seven Springs, Az. I had not been hunting more than 15 minutes in the camp area and I got the nice reading of 38 with my Minelab X-TERRA 705 and a very clear audio in spite of the highly mineralized soil in Az. I dug down about 3 to 4 inches and saw a coin, after filling the hole I checked out my find. It was an 8 sided token, that read CCC 2857 Good for 1 game of pool. I sent pictures of the token to Peter Spooner, author of Arizona Tokens. He responded saying this token came from a CCC Camp Eagle in Clifton, Az., and that he knew of only 4 to 6 of thes...

Great Friends, Great Finds

On May 7th and 8th 2014, myself and my good friend Frank had the great pleasure of hosting the guys from Dirt Fishin' America out of Idaho right here in my home town of Philadelphia Pa. We did 2 long days of detecting, photos, and filming video. On the first day I was able to not only find a first for me, but I was also able to find my oldest US coin. On a Colonial farm site that I have frequented many times, I had an iffy signal that sounded like something good could possibly be down a few inches. Now mind you, this field is full of iron and causes me some issues from time to time.

Summer 2013, a Parisian holidaymaker whilst swimming in the channel of Lake Hossegor (Landes in France ) lost her " Virtue " ring (made by jeweler Mauboussin) of white gold and white pearl set with diamonds, that had been given to her by her husband at the birth of their daughter.

Passed Over Before
I recently upgraded to the X-TERRA 705 from a competitors detector that I have used for several years with a fair amount of success. Since the X-TERRA 705 is a better detector I have started going over some of my older spots and getting some pretty decent results, finding things that I had passed up before. So far this has been the best necklace I have found, it was surrounded by pennies and nails about 4 inches deep. a .925 silver made in Italy Playboy bunny with a .925 rope chain....

So Beautiful!

A few weeks ago I went with a search buddy of my to a favourite spot where if have found a few nice things from the Saxon period. The field was heavily ploughed. But we could still search. After only 10 minutes I found a broken Saxon brooch. Bummer, again a broken one was going around in my mind. Then 10 meters further a nice smooth sound from the deep. And it was deep, around 30 cm. But it was a tone that trigger me to dug the hole. And there it was a very beautiful Saxon brooch with a length of 7.5 cm and!!! It was not broken. Man o man I was happy. I found that day 5 brooches with a another very very first century Roman brooch. Now the ...
