WOW

One word.......WOW......... this metal detector just keeps surprising the "hell out of me". Going on to a farm that the three clubs on the Island have done for the past 6 years, I knew that the finds would be few n far between, but about an hour into the field I pulled up a hadrian Dupondius, and my very first gold ring, intacted ...... no one else got anything ... I came off the field with the biggest smile. Minelab carry on doing your stuff ...

A Dream Becomes Reality

Five years ago I moved from England to work in Switzerland. Here metal detecting is really interesting and exciting because being the cross roads of Europe you never know what ‘nationality’ of coin you will find next Swiss, French, German, Italian, Euros and so on. However what has eluded me all this time is a medieval hammered coin. I seem to have found everything else, including two Celtic coins, but never a medieval hammered.

Detecting an Old 1800's Site

It was another great day in Adelaide with clear skies sunshine and a high around 33 degrees. So as I sat there looking out the window while chatting on line to my friend Shaun I was having a hard time deciding if I should go fishing off the beach or detecting at an old 1800 site that I had permission to hunt. So I mentioned to Shaun that I was considering an old relic & coin hunt and when he asked if I would like some company it pretty well made my mind up that detecting it was to be.

Shot to Hell

Usually we Detectorists remove nickels from the ground and the condition is what we most times would fondly call "Shot to Hell"! While out last weekend with the E-TRAC, the nickel I found was literally that!

Beyond My Wildest Dreams

Been using the E-TRAC for about 18 months now and my finds are beyond my wildest dreams. It's amazing what you are going to dig up next. Like this 1890s police badge. I've been running a Neil Jones pattren that I pick up on MLOTV except I changed smooth to normal and just love it.

Life can Turn on a Sovereign

I have three detectors, all Minelab and they have all paid for themselves. I recently graduated to the E-TRAC and although a little intimidated at first, within a few short weeks it has almost became an extension on my arm. For me, it's real strengths are in its ability to set patterns to allow you to target the good stuff.

First Gold Ring!

Out hunting at an old baseball field. Digging every soild signal I could find with my E-TRAC. Got a soild sound at 3 inches... though it was going to be another pull tab... flipped the plug and noticed a ring in the bottom center of the hole.

I Thought I was in a Dream

I had been finding hammered coins for the last 3 days, and I had been out with friends, they had had enough and were on their way home. I was still wanting to detect and get a hammered coin for the fourth day, so I said my goodbyes to my friends, and I went on my way to a field where I had been finding the hammered.

Ancient Finds From Japan

Went detecting along another old mountain path that runs from Bishamon Temple to Nanzenji Temple in Kyoto. I wasn't expecting to find much but figured that if I did hit something it was going to be old. About halfway along the walk I hit a solid 12-25 on the E-TRAC and bent down to dig in the ancient clay. Just about an inch under the surface and out popped a little stack of coins, all fused together. I was super-excited and assumed that they were Edo Period (1603~1868) coins called Kanei Tsuho like ones I have found before. They would have been strung together and on a string and carried that way. I threw them in the finds pouch and ...

No Giving Up

Made a deal with myself that I wasn't allowed to leave the beach until I had found either $40 clad or 4 gold/silver rings. Was a bit worried about it actually but within 4 hours I had about 6400 yen ($82.46 US) and 3 silver rings. Conditions weren't exactly ideal as the beach was pretty sanded-in (and crowded!) but it turned into a pretty good hunt. Love my E-TRAC.
