One Lucky Swing

I was out one day looking around at the local school. I had been hunting for about two hours and only had about two dollars in change. As the day light started to fade I started to head back to my car thanking that I had turned off my detector. With the machine by my side. I started to head down the steps. When my detector went off with a loud tone. I scan to see what made the loud sound . My machine read a 45 on a X-TERRA 505 @ 4 in deep. I dug and seen a beautiful silver eagle and a FFA lettering. Cleaning off the dirt I seen I had a big silver FFA ring. Thank you MINELAB

Sterling Silver

The trips to the beach have been regular but the finds have been a little irregular. I notice also once the tractors have gone through I only seem to pick up 50 cents and 5cents and occasional 2 and 1 dollar coin this pattern seems to repeat itself without fail I did find some small jewellery. Its the thrill of the hunt that keeps us going in this hobby I might invest in a 15 inch coil for the xterra to cover more area at the beach and gain a little more depth to maximise my time at the beach and increase my find rate happy hunting.

Never Expected Colonial Coins

I've been detecting around old cellar holes of a farmstead in western Pa with the E-TRAC. I've only had this machine since April 2014, mind you. On one of my last outings, I was exploring a couple hundred yards away from the farmstead and higher on a hill when I noticed a mound that appeared out of place. I detected around it on my way back to the truck but, didn't find anything. The following week, myself and brother-in-law decided to try again. My first hit was a screaming signal. Dug down 5 inches expecting a large cent. To my surprise, I saw silver but, not a US silver. It was a 177? Spanish 2 Reale! What an awesome feel...

Find of MY Lifetime with the E-TRAC!

As a child, I was always fascinated by stories of treasure. My father would take me to old foundations to explore, and I remember hoping and praying so hard that I would find something special. A few square nails and an old roofing hatchet were the only items in my collection, but at 8 years old, they were treasures! I guess, sometimes, we never really lose that part of us. My passion for history only became stronger as I got older, and last spring, at the age of 33, I bought a Minelab E-TRAC. From the second I hit that power button, I was hooked!

My Best Find Ever: Civil War Eagle Breastplate!!!

I have an X-TERRA 705 metal detector and I pounded a homesite built in 1925. After several months I went back to this homesite and detected the sidewalk of this homesite and got a signal about 6 inches deep. I dug and dug and saw what I thought was the back of a mason jar lid. I brushed the relic off and when I saw the eagle I almost fainted! It was a Civil War eagle breastplate! This was my best find ever!

For The Doubters...

Up until January this year I had always used a different brand of metal detector. people always said you should upgrade and try a Minelab but I could never see why and what the fuss was about..

Anyway, January saw an opportunity to purchase an E-TRAC from a friend of mine who had just upgraded to a CTX 3030…

First Gold in West Australia

In March 2014, we were looking for gold in Western Australia!

We were travelling from Kalgoorlie to Menzies, however, one must not look everywhere for gold, yes, because there are a lot of land already owned by people.

My Second Hammered. This Time Spanish

In December of last year I hit the jackpot and found a 1551-1553 English shilling.

Now for many of you that is no great feat but I live in Victoria BC Canada and the city's history only goes back 150 odd years. Well on the 15th of May this year I found my second hammered coin here in Victoria. This time Spanish but, now I am only guessing, this time it's Spanish from the 1600s. If anyone knows what the possible date is please comment. It's approximately 18mm so I think that makes this a 1 reale.
