40 Years of Detecting = Nice Copper Finds

My name is Bill and I live in Michigan. I am now in my early seventies, but my yearning for the discovery of copper artifacts began about 35 years ago. But first let me tell you my introduction to the world of metal detecting.

I started metal detecting some 40 plus years ago. My first detector was a White’s. I've tried a couple other brands but have always had a White’s and now use the brand exclusively. I now use the V3i and the Surf PI Pro for water detecting.

43 Years Later I Returned to the Hobby

In 1970 I purchased for my then 7 year old son a White’s Coinmaster. We lived in California at the time, and we found so many interesting items, such as coins, rings, bracelets, medals, and so many other items. If you will recall, the Coinmaster, at that time, had a big blue electronic component box. I do not remember what happened to it, but it got lost somewhere during our moves and/or his growing up. He used it for only a couple of years and like many boys, got interested in sports and other hobbies.

1,2,3...Bam a Hit

Today I was detecting behind a friends barn and 1, 2,3… Bam a slamming hit, so I said “let it be something nice.” What do I know, I pulled out my Bullseye Pinpointer and there is a shine and glimpse of gold. I saw the band of the ring and said “Let it be good!”

MXT is a Civil War Magnet

The ring with the fox/dog head is my favorite. It's made from lead/pewter and found near a Union Civil War camp. I'd love to claim it as carved from a bullet but I'm not quite sure as there appears to be the slightest trace of plating on the bottom. The remainder of the items in the display box are a Williams cleaner, a .58 minie, an eagle "I" cuff infantry button and a 1909 Barber quarter (obviously not Civil War). All dug from the same camp area in Northern Virginia.

A Super Week of Detecting and Great Deeds

As a member of The Ring Finders lost jewelry recovery network I received 4 calls this week from people who lost jewelry items at the beach here in New Jersey.

The 1st call was for a Tungsten wedding band that had been lost in the dry sand 2 days prior to the call and offered a $100.00 reward. The owner was able to provide detailed information to the area of the loss and within minutes of turning on my BeachHunter 300 I had the ring in my scoop! I called the owner who was very happy and amazed that I found it. I met up with his very thankful wife and returned the ring.

4 Days and a $41,170 Diamond Ring

I was on vacation with my grandkids on the East Coast of Florida. I had my White's MXT detector only four days when I found this platinum and diamond ring. It weighs about 5.5 grams and approximately 6.17 carats in diamonds.

V3i Cleans Up After Another Brand on the Beach

This winter I have been detecting with my White’s V3i on a Northeast beach that has been producing lots of finds from the 1800’s. To be honest, I thought I was the only one who detected this part of the beach, but recently I met a guy there who had an entry level machine (another brand) and said he has been pulling finds from there for the last 5 years. We talked a while and he said he hadn't found anything that day so then he wished me luck and went on his way. I decided to take a pass over his holes as I always do whenever I see another detector’s holes.

The M6 Isn't One to Underestimate

I just wanted to show you what the M6 turned up last month. My hunting buddy and I had a chance to hunt a private campground that by all appearances has not been hunted before. They two photos show two different days at the beach and playground area.

My Dad and I have been using your metal detectors for 6 wonderful years now, and we are both big White's fans. We go out almost every weekend and it's how we spend our time together. My Dad has a Prizm IV and I have a MXT, both of which we have had great success.

2012 was a Great Year for My Brother and Me

In January of 2012 my brother bought a pair of V3I's for me and himself. This started us on an 11 month detecting adventure. The first month we learned the basics of the machine with the help of White’s forum and its great ambassadors.
