huge Gold NFC Ring!
With metal detector in hand i just started scanning a beach that I haven’t scanned in my short time as a "detectorist"( less than 3 months) and was soon approached by someone offering a monetary reward if i can find what they had lost. I asked what it was and his response was he lost an "NFC Championship ring". I didn’t recognize him but he said his name and that he was a coach for the Giants in 2000.He stated that he had doubts that i would find the ring and that he was staying in the hotel there on the beach and that if i find it ask for "so and so" but sson he was off to work. He returned to the beach wi...

Star of Stars

While searching in an old farm field that research said there had been a post office in the 1800's, I found this Militia Artillery belt buckle. These buckles were issued to the various states in the 1810-1820 range for use by the states to arm their militia. When the Civil War started the Southern states issued these out to arm the troops because nothing else was available at the time.

Buckle is known as the "Star of Stars" buckle because of the design of the large star.

Pure Gold

I found this 1g. Pure gold bar with gold rope work frame while searching a school ground area in a nearby town. Together the bar and frame weighs 2g.

I have heard it said you can't find gold with a Minelab. I think this proves that wrong.

Safari Proves Depth Advantage Over Whites

I have been a die hard Whites XLT user for a few years now. I have found plenty of great coins, relics etc. But I was having trouble with depth on this machine and I just knew I was missing older coins. So I researched and watched many videos on Minelab machines and needless to say I was wanting one badly. So I bought a New Minelab Safari on June 28 2011.

My Oldest Coin to Date

Saturday, June 4, turned out to be a beautiful day, not only for the great weather. I finally broke through the 1800 barrier and found this 1775 King George III half penny on property that I had hit pretty hard over the last few years but obviously had missed with the Bounty Hunter Land Star.

The property is slated for residential development and a neighbor had told me that an engineering firm had recently drilled three holes around the property to test for and measure the water table below. I decided to hit the first hole about 30 feet away from the main building which dates from 1906, per city tax accessor records.&...

Thank God My Kid Missed The Bus!
Well the day started our rough. Son missed the bus so I had to take him to school. On the way back I decided to stop at the summer camp I work at. The owner was up and I started talking to him and he asked how the detecting has been. I told him a little slow do to all the rain we are getting up here in New England. He stated he wanted to show me a spot I should try. I happened to have my detector in the beetle so I grabbed it and jumped on his golf cart....

Priceless Finds
I just wanted to share my story. I bought my house and land from my family after my grandparents passed. The house was made back in the late 1800's and my family moved in in the early 1900's. I have owned two other metal detectors and have detected my land and found a few items. This past winter my wife bought me a Minelab Safari and I finally got time to try it in the yard. I new the yard had been detected very hard before but thought I would just try to get used to the tones....

Some of My Best Finds So Far
I started detecting around 8 months ago now, after securing my first farm permission I quickly got to work using my newly purchased Safari. After reading all the advice on the Minelab owners forum and trying different settings for myself I soon started hitting the finds and some very nice bits and pieces were seen by human eye's for the first time in many hundreds of years. Most detectorists love finding hammered coins and I’m no exception, I have found a wonderful selection using the Safari along with some really nice Saxon items including a couple of Strap Ends and a lovely Gilded Copper Alloy Disc Brooch / Mount, I love the Safari and...

A Different Kind of Treasure
I was attending my first metal detecting Rally with my brand new Safari. As I was new to the hobby my expectations were not initially high but it was a beautiful day in the Suffolk countryside and I was glad to be there amongst all the other hobbyists. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of items the Safari found and at what depth. I found my first coins and numerous old artifacts so was very happy. However it wasn't these that gave me the greatest pleasure overall... the greatest pleasure came from a simple dog name tag. Let me explain....

Twice as Nice
This was the last thing on my mind was to dig a two piece tongue and wreath side by side. I found the wreath first at about 3-4 inches and about 15 minutes later maybe 4-5 inches to the right of that hole I received another singled, thinking yea right I dug down about 1 1/2- 2 inches and out came the tongue and after close inspection as I had never seen one like it the letters VSS came to light (Vicksburg Sharp-Shooters) associated with Co E 12th Mississippi Regt from Warren County, Miss....
