A Game Changer

Here is a fun couple of days I had with my E-TRAC this summer. I mentioned on Facebook that I go metal detecting. An old buddy wanted to know what kind of detector I used, and how well it worked. I told him that 8 years ago I bought a lesser machine & that this year I had bought a Minelab E-TRAC, a better digging tool & a pinpointer. Together those three things were a "game changer".

Persistance and an E-TRAC

I live in Scotland in an area where the landscape has been seriously altered as a result of a century of Coal Mining and because “good” finds are few and far between.

I am very passionate about history and metal detecting gives me a direct link with history. The machine I use for this is an E-TRAC and before that, for a number of years I have used a Safari – which I swear by!

Seated Grand Slam

Recently on a Saturday morning, I had a little time and went to the same field near home I often hunt. The field has been heavily hunted for years. Coins are sparse and I frequently get skunked, but when you find something it is usually pretty old. It, just a couple weeks prior, produced a silver 1831 Capped Bust Half Dime. I hunted about an hour in the same areas I usually hunt, as do many others, before needing to leave, and found nothing.

Badge Of Success

As the year winds down, I was 1 away today from my goal of finding 30 silver coins for the year. I decided to head out about 40 minutes from my home, to a park in an old town that was established in 1887. The town sits on a lake surrounded by several counties and was once a camp site for Seminole Indians.

Colonial Field Homesite Gives Up the Goods

After two weeks of tracking down the owners of the site, I finally obtained permission to metal detect some farm fields that once had dwellings from colonial days. There is still corn stubble in the field and it was difficult in places to get the coil close to the ground.

A New Milestone For My E-TRAC

I hunt for civil war relics in Virginia. I've been doing it for ten years. I have around five places I mainly hunt. I used a White's Dfx for the first seven, then I purchased a Tdi. Now I'm not saying I didn't find anything with these machines, but the differences in the trash I've dug compared to my new E-TRAC is phenomenal!

Stunning Coins are Find of a Lifetime

We went on a dig in Bedford for the Minelab Owners group for my second year. First few days were not that good. I was getting a bit down in the dumps finds-wise.

We were given new fields, heard Roman was coming off, so over to that field. A couple of grots came up so, I went into another field (mowed). This bit of field had bits and bobs came off. Most people went home.

A Beautiful Queen Mary Penny

On only my second trip out with my new E-TRAC, I found this beautiful and very rare Queen Mary penny in a spot that had already been covered by 4 other club members using other makes of machine.
