1793 Liberty Cap From Between the Corn Rows

My find of a lifetime!

I found this in a field that I have detected many times over the years, and I have came away with a lot of great coins, buttons, etc. including some British coins and a 1798 large cent but nothing of this caliber.

CTX 3030 Finds a Gold Sovreign

There was a break in the weather, the sun was shining and I decided to take the CTX 3030 to an area in the local woods that I had previously searched with the E-TRAC and had found some nice Victorian silvers here. But they came at a price due to some modern dumping and it was difficult to search from the many signals generated by the large amount of trash under the leaf mould.

The Galloping Horse

One day like any other day, I went wandering around with my CTX 3030 on a spot (very much hunted area) which already have given me quite a lot of money and objects of all ages. This location is heavily polluted because of the sludge coming from the river.

A golden Flower

The other day, Steve and I were invited to search a site by our good friend Jason. The site in question has revealed mainly Roman coins but also a few Celtic ones and several related artefacts. The field is strewn with cobble stones and fragments of ancient pottery which certainly does raise the old enthusiasm when you see it. After a few hours, we stopped for a natter and Jason was saying "So far no gold Celtic coins have been found here".

Good Start to the New Year!

Last Saturday I decided to get out and enjoy the unusual, for January, weather here in N. Calif. I met my partner Reno Jim and headed for a spot we've hunted for years. We didn't expect to find anything, maybe a crumb that had been overlooked in all the trash. It was just a good day to get some exercise after the holidays.

Purpose of My V3i.
I got permission to hunt a old 1700s property that has been many things over the years. Today it is a rooming house but in the past has been everything from a large farmhouse to a coach stop. So there's been many many people that have gone through there. When the owner gave me permission to hunt the grounds and told me that nobody else has ever metal detected it, I was thrilled. After a few hours of pulling only clad, I thought maybe the owner lied. But my would she have any reason to do that. So I went to my car and pulled out a silver quarter and buried it 6 inches deep. My thought was to sweep over it get the readings then set my machine up...

My First $20 Coin
I had to go to the bank today, on my way back I seen a park and decided to give it a go. The first coin I dug was a wheat cent, the second was this CSA $20 coin. It turns out to be a novelty coin. It is a replica of what would have been a 1861 Confederate States of America $20 gold coin. It did make my heart skip beat....

George Washington Inaugural Button
I have finally hit it big with my V3i. I was out detecting a few days ago at a new spot that I have acquired permission to metal detect. In a matter of minutes I was digging up colonial button after button. Since I do not try to rub the dirt off my finds in the field, for fear or damaging a good find, I had no idea the amazing find that I dug up. When I was cleaning my finds at home I had noticed that the one button said, “long live the president” on it. I immediately got excited and started to search the Internet. It turns out that my button was a 1789 George Washington Inaugural button! That same day I had also found a silver Washingt...

Piere Cardin Chopstick
It was a cold day in November 2013. I had gone to the lake dressed in wet suit and was just wandering along the shoreline with my underwater White’s Surf Master. The draw down of the lake had already begun as it normally does every winter. The shoreline was out about 12 feet. It was cold, cold, cold!! I was out at a depth of about 3 feet. For this target, White’s picked up a weak signal. As I dug with my sand scoop, the signal got stronger and stronger. The target was down about 10 inches and after quite a long dig, this treasure showed up. I had no idea what it was but recognized the Piere Cardin brand name. After searching on eBay, so...
