See What I Have Done in my First 10 Months
I thought I'd let you folks see what I have done in my first 10 months in the hobby using an ACE 250. Even though by most people's standards I am still in the "beginner" phase of this hobby,...

Garrett B's First Gold Found With a Garrett
Call it beginner's luck, but young Garrett B. calls it the find of a lifetime. New to the hobby of treasure-hunting, this Arizona youth recently joined his grandfather Jim in a search for gold. As fate would have it, he found his first gold on that hunt. The metal detector he was using was - appropriately enough - a Garrett ACE 250. Garrett was searching Rye Patch Reservoir in Nevada with his grandfather when he made his exciting discovery. This multi-day July trip was sponsored by Gerry's Metal Detectors of Boise, Idaho, and included enthusiasts from Colorado, Nevada, Tennessee and Washington. Although each of the hunters on this particular trip was lucky enough to find so...

140 Year Old Civil War Time Capsule Found - Full of Relics
About 20 years ago a friend told me about "Relic Hunting." He took me out one day and after the first 3 ringer I was hooked! Now-a-days my favorite place to hunt is private property, with permission of course, for Civil War relics. I've also gotten into beach hunting in Virginia and the Outer Banks, N.C.My best find so far includes a lot of things which were all firsts for me. I was using a Nautilus DMC IIB that I was very familiar with...

Fisher F-75 Finds Civil War Relics Right Out of the Box
I've been a metal detectorist for over 30 years now, but two hours out with my Fisher F-75 delivered my favorite and best find to date. My F-75 was literally right out of the box, and all I had with me was a digging shovel. I was out on some private property (with permission of course) and the ground was dry and hard. Now, having been an excavating contractor in the early 70's, I was familiar with various types of ground soil. The company I worked for all those years ago had bought a metal detector to locate underground utilities and when it didn't work as they wanted I bought it from them. I lived beside and hunted "The Battle of Cedar Creek" battlefield for many years ...

Dave in Iowa Finds Rare Civil War Name Plate
I've been metal detecting for 2 years, mainly old yards and private property, with my Whites Prizm 5 and Minelab Explorer SE metal detectors. I was out by myself one afternoon with only my metal detector, a pinpointer and a trowel, deep in the black river sands that I had searched before. In the past I had made some pretty significant finds at this location.I found a skeleton house key to an old house nearby and an 1898 Barber half dollar, but I knew there was more to be found. After having searched for two hours and not finding anything significant, I got a good signal. About 8" down I found my favorite find to date - a Civil War button and the name plate for "Captain J...

Lost, Found & Returned - Platinum Wedding Band
On June 2, I was on My Treasurespot.com looking at the finds and someone had posted the following: "Hello friends, I am hoping that someone in this forum would be able to help me. I lost my wedding ring at the First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach. The entrance to this beach was at 64th Street and Atlantic Avenue. My wife and I went kayaking on Memorial day, came back around 1PM and was standing near the tree in the picture. While trying to rub off the sand from my shorts, I somehow managed to let go off the ring into the bush. I heard it hitting the leaves but even 5 hours of searching did not help to recover it. We even bought a metal detector to look for the ring but tha...

Minelab Excalibur II Pays For Itself
Just a couple of lines and photos from last weeks trip to spain. The excalibur II was amazing, knocking out all the hair clips and the small cent coins which are a pest. All in all a great week, thanks again for the great service you gave me in April when I bought my metal detector, its nealy paid for itself already. ...

10 X 12 SEF (Butterfly) Search Coil
Well...I decided I would really put the 10 x 12 SEF coil to the test today. I took it to 3 small parks that I have pounded into submission with other coils...just to see how good it really is. My final impression....It is a deep coin killer. Each and every coin I found over the next 9 hours was 8" to 10" deep... except for one 11"er ...and many were on edge. While I did have some nice solid signals...well over 50% of them were faint chirps. I believe it was this coil that allowed me to hear those chirps that I decided to further investigate. At these beat up sites...you either go very slow...and pay close attention to these type of signals...or you go home with an empty pouch...

Minelab Sovereign G.T. Finds $800 Silver Bar
While testing my NEW Minelab Sovereign GT metal detector with a 10" loop in my front yard, I received a signal in "All Metal" mode. I started to dig and the object detected was deep about 24" down! Finally I hit something solid. The object was very heavy. I took it into the house, washed it off and saw what it was. Very silvery in color and so heavy. I took it to my bathroom scale and it weighted 53.4lbs. I decided the next thing to do was have it tested. It turned out to be solid silver, worth approximately $800 on today's market. The nugget seems to have been hacked on with an axe or large knife. I live on the oldest road in the United Stat...

15x12" S.E.F Search Coil Find Dime 10" Down
I am just loving this S.E.F 15 x 12 coil. Yesterday was the first time I got out since the ground has thawed. Since first using the S.E.F 15 x 12 coil, it has not left my detector. I can't say enough good things about this unit! Yesterday was no different. I decided to hunt a farm field I had been too several times before using the stock SlimLine coil on my Explorer SE. At one time, there had been some small outbuildings in a grove of trees that is now farmed around in a section of the field close to where the old house was. I had hunt the perimeter of this area many times prior to getting the S.E.F coil. Well, yesterday I got a good, deep signal that I had to use a shovel for...
