Garrett GTI 2500 Metal Detector Unearths Georgia Gold
I just wanted to tell you that I have found my first gold nugget after having my GTI 2500 for six weeks. I found it at an old gold mine here in Georgia. It is 7.2 grams or 4.6 Dwt and it is a beauty! Recently, I bought a GTI 2500 used and sent it to Garrett to install the new mineralization chip in it. I was happy with it when I got it back. It would punch through this extremely high mineralization ground here in Georgia and I could run it with much higher sensitivity! To make this story short, I found this nugget in a creek near the edge of the embankment at an old gold mine....

A Really Loud Signal About Blew my Headphones Off My Head!
Hi JW, I thought I would send you some photos from a hunt I had on 08-02-06. I was hunting an old fairgrounds in my area and I was using my Whites MXT which was outfitted with my Excelerator 4.5 X 7 coil. During my hunt I began to notice that some of the coins I was digging up were pre-82 pennys, 1965 quarter, 1953 nickel and 1965 and 1966 dimes. I had been hunting pretty fast, but after seeing the dates on these coins I slowed down. I had just recovered 3 pre-82 pennies and before moving on I swung my coil over the hole and got another good signal. I dug down further into the hole, to about 4 inches, and recovered three wheaties. Again I swung my coil over the hol...

Excalibur Finds 14kt White Gold Ring w/ Nice Stones
After spending Sunday morning with other Gold Coast Treasure Club members at our annual silver hunt and picnic, I had 42 silver dimes in my pocket, but I wasn't done yet. I hit a few local beaches and didn't give up until I landed this nice 14kt white gold ticket with my Excalibur Here's another view with better lighting. I took it to a jeweler to ID the stones. The top stone is tanzanite. The bottom stone is a black opal (I don't "get" how it is a BLACK opal, but that's what it is called. Check out that FIRE!) To the right are three tiny diamonds. And the best part: it fits me! Here is another, similar shot: I'm loving my Excalibur! This year is off to a goo...

The Very First Coin Find With My Detector Was Silver!!!
JW-Just wanted to write and say "THANK YOU!" Recently, while searching for a new detector, you guided me toward the Minelab Explorer II. I have owned over ten different makes and models of detector over the past decade, and I was excited to try the Explorer II. After a month of nice weather, here in Ohio, UPS delivered my new Explorer just in time for 14 days nonstop of rain and thunderstorms. Just my luck! I have been cooped up in the house with my face pressed against the window like a kid at Christmas waiting for the sun to come out so I can play with my new toy. Finally, a few evenings ago, we were given a several hour break between raindrops and I used the time to brea...

Lorenz Metal Detector Finds Meteorites
I grew up in N. E. Louisiana on the family farm. This area was home for Native American's as far back as 1500 B.C. As we tilled the fields we would unearth all sorts of Indian relics. At an early age I started collecting them. Little did I know this would be training that would later help me in searching for rocks from space. Generally speaking there are three main types of meteorites. They are stone, iron, and stony iron (pallasite). While all three contain some iron, the palisites and iron have the highest concentrations. To locate them I needed a metal detector....

DetectorPro In Water or Land
I took the DetectorPro Pirate to the river on Sunday. I really enjoyed using it because it is so lightweight. I found a few coins and also a necklace, (I don't think it is real) but a nice start anyway. It seemed to penetrate very deep as far as I could tell. River hunting is not at all like the ocean where your hole fills in right away. This is why I know it gave good depth. My granddaughter was actually playing in the holes in the water that I dug the coins out of. Very simple to control since there is only two knobs, volume and discrimination. I am looking forward to taking the Pirate to the salt water beaches! The volume is crisp and easy to pinpoint the target. After I...

Fisher 1270 Finds Quarters, Pennies & Canadian Coins
I got a chance to do a little land fishing with the 12 inch coil for the fisher 1270.I found some old school board land that has never been hunter in Loranger Louisiana .This place is really grown up .There was not a lot of trash as i thought it would be.The coil hunts good as long as you don't run the sen all the way up. With my 8 or 10 inch coil I can run the sen all the way up.I was still finding coins at 7 to 11 inches deep with the sen at 3/4 up.If i try to run the sen more than that i get all kind of noise. My first day i did ok I found a coupel old quarters, pennies and canada coins. The first quarter you see was found 11 inches deep inside of a coin pouch.pennie...

DetectorPro Finds Coins & Gold Rings
J-man (my hubby) bought himself a new Pirate this week. Although we are both Excal users, he wanted something for a back up machine or for company to use. In the past I have owned the first generation Headhunter PI and the second generation Wader........both were very good machines so we wanted to see how the Pirate measured up to the Wader. Of course it is light weight and a very easy swing, the sensitivity is excellent and we were able to discriminate iron starting with a setting of 3. Headset is very comfortable. Coins were found as deep as 10 inches and a gold plated ring was found at 6 inches......loud and clear! Of course iron was dug up just to see what the sounds were ...

1884 Gold Coin Worth ~$2,000!
I first got into the hobby of metal detecting when I was a little boy on vacation with my family. I saw a detector for sale in a shop window, it was 1975, and all it did was flash a red light when metal was nearby. I begged my parents to buy it for me and my father arranged to pay for three quarters of the price. Unfortunately, it didn't work for long and I ended up breaking it apart and making something else out of it. My parents never forgot it - but then again, neither did I. Decades later I heard there were gold fields in between where I live and the beaches of Sydney, Australia....
