1837 Province du Bas Canada Bank Token

Got out for my first hunt with the new Safari. Detected a local park that was a farm until the 1940's, which has never given up anything except modern clad.

14 Wheats and 4 Silver

I came across a old foundation and did some research and it was an old school from 1900s to 1940s all that is left is the blocks the school sat on. I wanted to hit this spot in the spring because the summer is so full of thorns and ticks. But I was able to hunt just a small area and managed these.

Find of a Lifetime

Like any dig, there is always going to be that “what if?” that goes through your mind whenever you walk out onto that field. Never knowing what you are going to find is the reason why all of us addicted detectorists keep coming back for more. Fuelled every now and then by the ground giving up its secrets with a find, and sometimes something rather special.

For me it was going to be Sunday 16th February 2014 I was on a dig with Medway History Finders MDC. After a pleasant couple of hours detecting I moved onto a different part of the field when I received a weak signal from my Minelab Safari. This signal tu...

Iron Age / Roman Strap Fitting

I am a member of Ambers Digs, a group of detectorists that venture out most Sundays in the North East of England. Recently the group had its annual rally which consisted of a weekend camp on farm land with a large area of arable land on which to detect. Unfortunately due to work commitments I was unable to attend the rally for the full weekend but managed to make it for the final day.

I turned up at the camp field to be told of some fantastic finds that had been unearthed the previous two days and was quite worried that there would be nothing left for me to discover. After around four hours my fears seemed quite well ...

Sweet Silver
I've been hunting a spot I call my Money Tree. It's a nearly 500 yr old oak tree that once had 2 old homes next to it. Haven't been finding much lately. Started to dig those bouncy signals. The ones bouncing from low to high tone. Was only finding old iron nails & bolts. Got a similar signal & was pleasantly surprised to find this sweet early 1917 Standing Liberty Quarter Type 1. Was in with iron, you can see some rust on the back from the iron that was laying against it. This is my 2nd SLQ & 1st with a date....

Richard I Hammered Coin

After the summer months with no metal detecting waiting for the crops to be harvested I finally got the chance to go out with my trusty Safari. I went out with my usual group on to a stubble field in North Yorkshire, England. After a couple of hours the field had not yielded anything for me or anyone else in the group. I look up and see everyone has trudged back to their cars to move on to another field.

As I'm the last one still out there I began walking directly towards my detecting buddy who had driven us there and was loading his gear in to his car and not wanting to hold anyone up I was walking quite quickly...

I've been hunting a spot I call my Money Tree for a few months. I have found many Indian Head pennies, Wheats, 2 Large cents, 11 Silver coins & many relics. It surrounds an old oak tree said to be nearly 500 yrs old. I have been over this spot numerous times & continue to find things I've missed.

I've recently learned to dig those not so great signals, for example ones that read like iron but don't sound like iron. Doing so I found this pretty cool Antique Silver Quill pen minus the tip. The signal was bouncing between -10 & 36, but was mostly reading -10 because of iron next to it. I t...

While hunting near an old stone house in an area loaded with iron I was able to retrieve this 1749 King George II. Still learning new tricks every time out with the Safari.

Edward III Gold Half Noble

Took my Minelab Safari out on a club dig near Thatcham, Berkshire, UK. Went over a bit of land that looked like it had been well dug by other detectorists. Got a cracking signal and out popped this beauty.

A gold Half Noble of Edward III. Minelab does it again!!! First a deeply buried hoard of Roman pewter tableware back in 2009 and now a piece of gold that everyone else missed. Thanks Minelab!
