My Second Hammered. This Time Spanish

In December of last year I hit the jackpot and found a 1551-1553 English shilling.

Now for many of you that is no great feat but I live in Victoria BC Canada and the city's history only goes back 150 odd years. Well on the 15th of May this year I found my second hammered coin here in Victoria. This time Spanish but, now I am only guessing, this time it's Spanish from the 1600s. If anyone knows what the possible date is please comment. It's approximately 18mm so I think that makes this a 1 reale.

17" CTX 3030 Coil for Small Targets

Yesterday I received my new 17" search coil for Minelab CTX 3030 and today I went out to test!

I found in 4 hours more Roman coins as two days ago with the 11 "search coil ... and I was on the same field as the small coil.

Another One

I always metal detect on the beach opposite the area before entering the water. As this superb 18K gold ring with three 3/4 carat diamonds show, not all jewelry is lost in the water at tourist beaches. My CTX 3030 helps me to avoid digging unwanted junk targets in the dry sand and find treasure between the trash. Thank you Minelab for changing my fortunes on another south Florida treasure hunt

7 Romain Coins in 4 Hours

Today on 20/5/2014 I was with my metal detector CTX 3030 looking for coins. In addition I have visited a place where formerly a Roman military camp and a Roman village is standing.

After 4 hours of searching I have 7 Roman coins have been found, including a coin of the Emperor Constantine ...

2,500+ Year Old Copper Spear Point

After a few days of research due to being housebound from non-stop down pouring I had a couple days’ worth of hunting planned and mapped out. I started my hunt at 8:00 in the morning in one of my favorite hunt spots. I’ve been searching and recovering from this particular site for over 3 years now with every winter passing it turns up new finds. I spent the majority of my morning there not finding much. It was probably due to the amount of time I had already spent there in previous hunts. Just before I was about to leave I got a sweet dime signal at 5 inches down. I dug until I could see the back of the barber dime glistening a...

What Remains of a Soldier...

Some time ago while I was patrolling an area ( near where I live ), where in July 1944 U.S. troops have clashed and the German ones, including some splinters my CTX3030 gave me a number of distinct signals that ranged from a 12 -10 to a 14-12. very close .... at a depth of 10-12 cm...

4,000 Year Old Bronze Age Lunula

While out on one of our weekly digs with the Stour Valley Search and Recovery Club, in the heart of the Dorset countryside, I was privileged enough to find a piece of Bronze Age gold, with a possible age to it of approximately 4,000 years. It started like every Club dig with a friendly chat as we all started to arrive and then a quick briefing about the field we were going to detect in. The field was permanent pasture and the Club had visited it several times before. Previously I had only been there once. On that occasion I had only found a couple of small bronze coins and a Georgian halfpenny. As lunch time was approaching my finds b...

Great Friends, Great Finds

On May 7th and 8th 2014, myself and my good friend Frank had the great pleasure of hosting the guys from Dirt Fishin' America out of Idaho right here in my home town of Philadelphia Pa. We did 2 long days of detecting, photos, and filming video. On the first day I was able to not only find a first for me, but I was also able to find my oldest US coin. On a Colonial farm site that I have frequented many times, I had an iffy signal that sounded like something good could possibly be down a few inches. Now mind you, this field is full of iron and causes me some issues from time to time.
