Metal Detector Treasure Finds, Pictures and Stories
New Season, Great Expectations!
Well, it is the start to another season of detecting here in Indiana. The ground is drying out and the days are starting to get warm enough to be “out there!” I have gone out the last three days in a row and most importantly have returned to three old haunts that I have detected at for hours and hours!!
Here are the results:
Day one: 1865 US 2 Cent piece Day two: 1888 Indian Head Penny Day Three (today) 1847 Large Cent
Here are the important factors
- 1. All Three places are sites I have previously detected with a fine tooth comb.
- 2. Each Coin was around 4-5 inches deep
My conclusion… The freezing and thawing of the long Indiana winters pushes previously tough to find coins into a better place. I am using the Spectra V3i I purchased last year. I typically hunt in open farm ground… all three coins were found in rural Indiana fields where homesteads or businesses existed in the mid to late 1800's
There you go...
