Metal Detector Treasure Finds, Pictures and Stories
I Can Swing it All Day
I was invited to go hunting with a friend at an old church where he had previously found a couple of silver coins and Indian Head pennys. I had recently purchased a Minelab X-TERRA 705 Gold Pack and I thought that it would be a good time to try it out.
I got to the location and got set up. I was able to run the X-TERRA 705 with full sensitivity and was using the 10 x 5 HF coil that was stock on my X-TERRA 705 Gold Pack. I played around with it for a few minutes to get a feel for how the detector was going to act running so hot but there was no problem. I asked my friend if there was an area that he had not had a coil over and he pointed to a corner of the church grounds.
I began swinging in that area and found a .22 calibur shell casing and a couple of other deep small targets. I got a solid 42 - 44 signal and knew it had to be a quarter. I dug a nice 6 inch plug and ran the pinpointer over the plug and sure enough it was in the plug. I started removing dirt and then I got the glimpse of silver!!! I called my friend over and he had a water bottle so we gently washed the dirt away from a 1892 O Barber Quarter!!
To preface this story a little, I had been a long time Minelab Explorer user but had to take a break from detecting for about a year after I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. When I started detecting again, I tried out a few lightweight detectors but could not find one that matched the performance of my old Explorer. I decided to try the X-TERRA 705 and I am glad I did. The X-TERRA 705 is as light as a feather and I can swing it all day with no problem.
Even though I have only had it out a few times, I can already tell that the X-TERRA 705 outperforms the other detectors that I have tried. I have dug several deep coins that I could not have reached using my old detector. The ability to change frequencies by changing coils is great and I love the other features like auto ground balancing and pinpoint sizing.
Thanks Minelab for producing a lightweight detector that will still run with the heavier, more expensive machines. Needless to say, I am selling my other machines and I will purchase a second X-TERRA and a couple of extra coils!!!
