Coastal Site Reveals Art Nouveau Pansy Pin
Been a while since I dug.
Started at 4:45am yesterday at a coastal site that was a scrap metal/junk car area of the city. In the early 20th century, they bulldozed all the buildings, filled in a tidal inlet, and built a row of homes where the shoreline now sits.
The site has given up gold on two previous hunts, an Artcarved Band, and an ornate Clockface piece. Also lots of .50 cal ammo and some artillery pieces.
Not many Pre 1850 finds here, but I think it was a popular swimming area earlier in this century.
- 1961 Dime
- 1918 Quarter (ha, it's an 'S' and I see a really flat top on that 8, maybe the 7 over 8 error )
- 15 g 14K Pin
A shame the pin is so chipped and damaged.
I pulled from a crevice in rock outcropping with a piece of copper wire I had dug. Has anyone seen the makers mark before? looks like the top of a keystone...
Holy Toledo! this just in, Got an Id on the pin, Art Nouveau style, Fits right in with timeline of other finds at this site: "Art Nouveau, ornamental style of art that flourished between about 1890 and 1910".
Thanks for looking and HH All!
