How to Decide Which Metal Detector Parts You Need

Occasionally, it can be difficult to determine which part you need. The average metal detector consists of four main parts: the control box, the stabilizer, the shaft, and the search coil.

If you have an issue keeping your metal detector steady, you should get a stabilizer. While a stabilizer is optional, it will make sweeping your metal detector back and forth much easier and safer.

You should purchase a new shaft if you have trouble adjusting your metal detector to accommodate your height. The shaft connects the search coil and the control box.

The control box contains the microprocessor, the circuitry, the batteries, the speaker, and the controls. Before you purchase a new box, you should take a look at these internal parts, because the issue likely lies in one of them and not the box as a whole. Also, you're going to want to keep a supply of batteries at home if your metal detector is battery-run. This is especially true if you use your metal detector frequently and on a regular basis.

If your metal detector has ceased sensing metal, the search coil likely needs to be replaced. The search coil is also often referred to as the antenna, the search head, or the loop.
