Having recently had some problems resulting in my having to use a
lighter weight metal detector, especially if I wanted to continue
treasure hunting. I settled on the White’s Classic 5ID and decided to give it a full day’s workout on the
Cocoa Beach area.
Pat (my loyal helper who volunteered to do my digging and anything
that required lifting) and I arrived at Cocoa Beach during
a real low tide. There was lots of sand evidently
from the dunes that had been washed away by the recent hurricanes.
The dry sand really added at least 12 to 15 inches of over-burden
making it difficult to locate targets. We decided to work
towards the water and then parallel the ocean going south.
A big surprise was how little trash there was. We did
start getting signals almost immediately and almost all were
full size soda cans, all empty of course. These might never
have been found if not for the large amount of sand that was
removed closer to the water. But…, we worked around
them and my first find was a penny but at least is showed
me that there coins to be found. There were a number
of other people using metal detectors, Kellyco customers of
course. And they were also finding coins and cans.
Then my luck changed. I found an older woman’s
ring, a gold “Lady” Charm and another charm with
precious stones. Moving up the beach we went into
a park area and detected a nice section of dry sand by a popular
volleyball court and WOW, I found an emerald ring
with a diamond in the center. The diamond was surrounded
by nine beautiful emeralds, should’ve of been 10 but
one was missing. Pat and I were on our hands and knees sifting
through the sand to see if we could find the elusive emerald
– no luck.
It was still early, so we continued to detect for another hour
or so and another WOW, in fact, two Wow’s.
I found 2 diamond necklace solitaires! Surprisingly,
not many coins and no one else was detecting in the park area.
The White’s Classic 5ID was an excellent
choice. It did everything for me plus more. It discriminated
out all the small junk and still allowed me to make some great
finds. Pat, my “do - guy”
(Pat do this, Do That,
etc) was like an extra right arm and even put some time in
swinging the White’s Classic 5ID.
Since I found all the good stuff, I kept it all.
