What I was staring at was a Union (most likely officer's) sword belt plate. The plate is in great shape with just the
backside hook being broken; probably the reason why it was discarded. Someone actually left this in the ground??? The only thing I can gather is that maybe
the digger had started digging this hole when it was getting dark, they didn't have a flashlight, and they didn't have a probe.

Class Ring Found and Returned 39 Years Later. After the storms hit Daytona Beach recently, my wife and I decided to
try our luck at metal detecting there since we heard they were finding a lot of silver coins. I have been metal detecting since 1985 and this was the most
pleasurable and profitable trip I have ever had. The very first coin I dug up was a silver quarter and it happened to be from my birth year. I told my wife
then that I had a feeling in my bones this was going to be my lucky trip.

Explorer II Finds Gold Pocket Watch! I took my new Explorer II to a favorite hunt spot of mine for years now, a place my
buddies and I have nicknamed "The Barber House." The next thing I dug was a little weird sounding and the box and the numbers were all around. But in
a good way. So I dug it up. Turned out to be a green and crusty pocket watch, seemingly intact save for the face and the door. I initially cleaned up the watch
with some soap and water and it did wonders. It was at that point that I realized it was gold!

The
past 20 years credit me some genuine finds.
Some examples are cannon balls,
Spanish Reales, Civil and Revolutionary War relics as well as
jewelry from beaches like working watches, sterling silver and
gold rings. The gold rings were instantly taken almost before
I could free them of the dirt by my lovely wife Junice. Which
was okay since she supports my hobby. Plus not to mention hundreds
of regular clad coins. Click for Story

Silver
Dollar Cache Found with Minelab Explorer
I started to dig under the
block and that's when I hit something. After removing
some more dirt, I saw what I thought was a round piece of concrete.
I removed more dirt and saw it was round alright but some sort
of jar. I pulled on it and out came this crock. It has
some kind of a spicket on it made out of metal. The crock
had a sealed brown glass jar in it and as I nervously removed
the jar I could see. . . Click

The
8-inch Coil Continues to Amaze Me
The new concentric coil for the
Explorer continues to impress me.
On a recent hunt, I was hunting in smart screen iron mask -10
and getting a signal which kept reading iron to silver range
but pinpointing large. I decided to dig as signals were few
at this old school site which I have pounded hard over the years
of detecting. The 8" coil continues to amaze me with it's
seperation and depth capabilities. I also recovered a 5 inch
deep ..... Click for Story

Explorer
2 With EXcelerator 4.5"x7" Coil Finds 1857 Half Dime!
I was armed with my Explorer
2 equipped with the excelerator 4.5"x7" coil.
This little coil has proven to be a favorite of mine already.
The ground at this park is extremely mineralized and has a lot
of iron pieces mixed in the soil. It sits next to two sets of
railroad tracks and used to have a train station which sat right
in the middle of the park. I switched to iron mask -15 and could
now see and hear that there were iron tones mixed with this
high tone. Click to read the rest of

Testing
A New EXcelerator 4x7 Elliptical DD Coil on Minelab's Explorer
II
I received a prototype EXcelerator
4 X 7 Elliptical DD coil for my Explorer II today.
The coil is nearly as long as the Minelab 8-inch coil and narrower
than the Excellerator 5 inch. The weight and balance fall somewhere
in between those two. Naturally, the first place I took it was
to my test garden. This plot has been buried several years and
is set up with a variety of coins, as well as trash. The EXcelerator
coil separated the trash from the coins remarkably well. Read
