Finding
Gold is Just Icing on the Cake
Kellyco,
I went out detecting today for what may turn out
to be the last time this year before old man winter freezes
the ground. I went back to one of my old favorite
spots. A place that has yielded Barbers, Seated Liberties,
Shield and Liberty Nickels and Indian cents over the past
10 years. Most people who drive by just figure it is a corn
field. But through research, I found out it was a picnic
ground in the late 1800's - early 1900's. Upon arrival,
I found the crops had been harvested and the ground
was
moist from recent rains. The sky was slightly overcast and
the temperature was in the mid 50's. A perfect day for detecting.
I have a couple Minelab detectors that I bought from Kellyco
this summer, but chose the Sovereign Elite for the duties
today. There is quite a bit of old foil and shell casings
here and the BBS circuitry of the Sovereign Elite can help
separate them out for me. It turned out to be a good day
detecting. I found an 1878 Shield Nickel, four Indian
cents dated 1875, 1898, 1901 and 1903, a beautiful 1854
Seated Liberty Quarter and a nice gold ladies pin.
I could have went to the City Park and found a pocket full
of clads. But finding coins 100 - 150 years old is the reason
I metal detect. Finding gold is just icing on the cake.
Thanks Kellyco for making metal detecting an affordable
hobby.
