RING FOUND AND RETURNED
Almost
exactly a year ago from this time, I purchased a new Minelab
Explorer II Pro detector from Kellyco. I persuaded
my neighbor to also purchase one like it. Glenn was the salesperson
and he was very friendly and helpful. Since I have learned
more about how to use it, I have been successful locating
things in so called hunted out places. I am especially pleased
with the depth that it reaches.
After
the storms hit Daytona Beach recently, my wife and
I decided to try our luck at metal detecting there since we
heard they were finding a lot of silver coins. I recently
retired and always before, by the time I got to the beach,
most of the good things were covered with sand or already
discovered. I have been metal detecting since 1985 and this
was the most pleasurable and profitable trip I have ever had.
The very first coin I dug up was a silver quarter and it happened
to be from my birth year. I told my wife then that I had a
feeling in my bones this was going to be my lucky trip. We
were at the beach for five days and each day was fantastic
when the weather permitted me to detect. I dug hundreds of
newer coins as well as the silver ones I originally went for.
I
have attached a picture of the silver coins as well as a class
ring I found on the third day. It was dated 1964
and from a high school in North Florida. The ring was in absolutely
mint perfect condition. It took me a few weeks to locate the
owner but we finally got together and I returned his lost
ring. He said he and three other boys from the high school
basketball team were in Daytona in the year 1965 on spring
break and he told me almost exactly where he lost, and I found
the ring. He remembers taking it off and laying it on the
back of his car so he would not lose it. Unfortunately, they
drove off and the ring was forgotten until later. The beach
was eroded several feet lower than normal and the ring was
still almost a foot deep when I detected it. The ring
was lost for nearly 39 years. The owner is now a
schoolteacher in South Georgia and was elated to get it back.
Of course it did not fit him now but he is going to pass it
on to his son as a family keepsake. It really gave my wife
and I a good feeling inside when we returned it to the rightful
owner.
The
total silver tally was 44 dimes, 14 quarters, 4 half dollars
and dozens of wheat pennies. I don’t know if I will
ever top this trip, I can only dream!!
P.S.
Keep up the great work Kellyco, it is always a pleasure working
with you folks.
Paul
from Central Florida.
