Detecting weather
has finally arrived here in N.W. Indiana!
I
finally was able to make it to an old farm site I've been
wanting to detect and manage to make two trips there.
This place has an old cellar hole that has a stone foundation
around it. My first trip was a short one as all I found
were 3 tokens. I only had an hour and the first token I
found was 5 cent in trade token. The interest thing about
this find is that it was laying on a rusted out nail as
you can see in the picture it rotted out an edge of the
token where it was resting on it.

The
little 5 inch Excelerator on the Explorer 2 managed to find
this token for me by getting by the masking of the nail,
very impressive I thought. My next find was a Pontiac
Chief of the sixies at 8 inches deep! This token is bronze
and when I first pulled it out of it's grave, I thought
it to be a nasty looking Barber quarter. I was still delighted
with the find and amazed at the depth this little coil is
giving me.

The
other token was a Palmalive token that was maybe 3 inches
deep. All of these tokens has something trying to mask them
out as this place has been hit by fellow detectorist in
the past. I need to add that ground conditions were slightly
moist soil and my mineralization here reads a nasty 89-92
here on my DFX in ground phase. My settings on the machine
with the 5 inch excelerator were sens at 12(man) and I opted
to run iron mask at -10 with fast settings and ferrous tones.
My
next trip to this site started out with the 8 inch Excelerator
Concentric which worked good away from the foundation area
and found me four toy guns an old lock and a couple of wheaties.
I think most of the detectorist have had hit this place steered
away from the foundation because of allthe trash and rusted
nails. I decided to switch back to the 5 inch Excelerator
and and run my old coins program with a sensitivity of 10
in manual. This seemed to be the hot settingfor me as I found
7 wheats a 24 mercury, 61 Rosie and another token. I can say
this coil out of ALL 5 inch coils I have used whether it be
a Minelab or another machine has proven to be the best coil
by far at seperating in extreme trash! It just has a knack
at ferreting out coins in trash. The depth is very impressive
and the seperation is superb. I think this second
generation of Excelerators are no doubt a WINNER.
