JW,

The weather guessers were calling for cold temperatures and snow early in the week. So this past weekend, I decided to take the X-TERRA 30 out for one last hunt before I winterized it.  I am glad I did.  As you can see in the picture, the ground is white now, and, temperatures have not been out of the single digits for the past 3 days.

With flurries in the air, I walked a block up the street to an old vacant house. I had asked the owner earlier in the year if I could hunt the yard once we received some moisture. (didn't want to make brown spots). He said to hunt when ever I wanted, and I figured I better do it now or wait until next spring. As I said, it was already misting and there were flurries mixed with the light rain.  So, I didn't have time to do much but "cherry pick".

Running the X-TERRA 30 with sensitivity at 10, volume at 10, accepting all ferrous targets and only digging the high tones, I found several items.  Two were really nice old tokens.  The square token says: GOOD FOR 10¢ ON PURCHASE PRICE OF COLGATE PALMOLIVE SHAVE CREAM. On the back, it says: NOTE TO DRUGGIST THIS TOKEN REDEEMABLE FOR 10¢ ONLY IF TAKEN IN PART PAYMENT FOR ARTICLES NAMED ON REERSE SIDE. ANY OTHER APPLICATION CONSTITUTES A FRAUD. COLGATE - PALMOLIVE PEET CO. The round token is about an inch in diameter. It is from a nearby community's merchant, long since gone. On the front, it has 5¢ in the middle, with the wording written in an arc above and below the 5¢. The writing says: GOOD FOR ONE 5¢ LOAF OF BREAD, and has a couple stars adjacent to the 5¢.

I also dug 10 pennies, one dime, a quarter, part of a spoon, part of a harmonica and a real nice old brass picture frame. And that little thing sitting in the middle of the frame looks like a miniature army helmet.  Some youngster must have lost that while playing in the yard.

As you can see by the snow covered ground in the picture, hunting is over for this neck of the woods until spring thaw.  Until then, I will depend on those with warm days and thawed ground to tell of their finds, and keep me entertained for the next several months.
