Hi KELLYCO, Just wanted to thank everyone for their help in my selection of my Excalibur 800. I wanted a good, dependable,
easy to use water proof metal detector. You suggested the Excalibur 800 after hearing all my needs. Well, I had a few questions after it arrived (After all, I never
used a metal detector before) and you guys gave me the right answers or directed me to the person that could help.
After two months of research and gathering things I needed, I traveled 900 miles to Fort Pierce FL for two days of beach hunting
after the 2004 hurricane season. I was three months late but still found some clad coins and best of all an encrustation 12" square and 6"
thick on the beachover 200 feet from the high tide line. It weighed 26 lbs and sent my detector crazy. After making sure it was not an old land mine I carefully
chiseled and scrapped. It ended up to be a "ship mate" charcoal stove with brass hinge pins (a non-ferrous signal I was hoping was silver or gold). I
figure it to be about 50 years old according to the pictures of some old units on the web.
Next, I had a chance to go to Koh Samui, Thailand. Have detector, will travel. I only had one morning to detect, so at
5:00AM I went off to a beach that is known to have had some tourists. After two hours of hitting the surf line, my back was aching but I already collected a few clad
coins (Thai Baht) and a bracelet. I walked over to a volley ball area and in one hour found a corroded pendent, a brooch, a single earring and a few keys.
Well, the research from the books I bought from KELLYCO paid off. I looked where they said and found the treasure.
After taking a rest and refreshing my batteries, I headed towards the beach entrance. At the mouth of the entrance, my
Excal-800 started to go wild. First I thought I had put in dead batteries and I was getting false signals but no, every dig I made I found one-to-two coins!
I hunted an area about 20' X 20' and in about a two hour period I had over 50 coins, not to mention a crowd of spectators amazed at me pulling up a coin or two
everyplace I stopped my detector. This was a very exciting day for me and believe it or not, I was almost relieved when I could not pick up any more signals.
My back was hurting and I was exhausted. I just ordered a better scoop with extensions to help my back the next time I go out.
My next excursion ( #3) will be coming up soon and I know it will be another exciting trip. Thanks for all the help with my new
hobby. Attached are some pictures of my gear I use and the finds on that morning on the beach resort near Koh Samui, Thailand.
