My wife went along and she was out on her own looking around as I was concentrating on the house area and fence
posts. We talked to the owner when we got there and he told us his Grandfather was a moonshiner and the creek
was at the very back of the property. My wife decided to go investigate the creek while I detected. She came back after about
an hour and said back in the pines there was a Big square chunk of concrete which looked like a marker or something. We jumped
in the truck and drove back to the pines. I had no luck detecting around the yard area so off to the pines sounded like a
good place to go.
When I saw this cement thing I couldn't figure out how or why it was where it was.
I was using the Explorer with the 18 inch EXcelerator coil and the hipmount kit I received from Kellyco. I was running in Digital and
didn't get any hits around the block of concrete. When I stuck the coil right in front of the block, I was getting a repeatable solid 30.
The depth showed full depth on the meter. I went back to the truck and got the shovels and started digging. My wife got out the camera and
started snapping away. We both had a good feeling about this, but I kept saying this is just too obvious of a place to bury something of
value. After I dug about 6 inches I check the hole with the machine again and the hit was still there a solid 30. I was digging straight
down and not hitting anything. I started to dig under the block and that's when I hit something.
After removing some more dirt, I saw what I thought was a round piece of concrete. I removed more dirt and saw it was
round alright but some sort of jar. I pulled on it and out came this crock which was in there sideways. It has some kind of a spicket
on it made out of metal which I would find out later this is what I was picking up as a solid 30.
The crock had a sealed brown glass jar in it and as I nervously removed the jar I could see silver
and my heart was pounding and my wife and I were both screaming yes!! From out of the jar came 19 silver dollars the oldest is a
1891 and the newest a 1926. The majority of them are 1921's and 22's. I can't express how excited we were to find another cache!! I'm
still cleaning them and will send a picture of them later.
We stopped back at the owners house to let him know what
we discovered and he was happy for us and said you found them
they are yours!! My wife said we are going to get
him a gift certificate to one of the local nice restaurants
to at least show our thanks for letting us detect.
We asked him about the big chunk of concrete where we found the cache and he said he had no clues of how it got
there. He said he could remember jumping off it a couple of times when he was a kid and use to climb the pine trees. I think the owner
of these coins put them in the ground and then set the concrete on top of it cause of the way I had to tunnel under this thing. I'm just
lucky this crock had a spicket on the outside at the bottom and was on its side with the spicket towards the outside, I don't think
I would of ever picked up the silver inside this thing at the depth it was. This will be one hunt I'll always remember and I'm not sure
if I'll ever top this find!!

P.S. It's hard to beat the Explorer multiple frequency detector, especially when connected to the 18"
EXcelerator Search coil, It's an unbeatable combination.
