Accusound Headphone Report

 

I've been detecting for over 35 years. During that time, I have learned that there are several important "tools" for the job, besides the metal detector itself. One of the most valuable tools is a good set of headphones. To me, a good set of headphones will reproduce all the tones generated by my detector. They need to have a Stereo/Mono switch so I can use them with the any of my metal detectors. They must fit well and a have large padded earcups, allowing me to use them for extended periods of time without discomfort. They must block "outside noise" created by passing cars, wind and curious onlookers. As I get older, I find that my hearing is not the same in each ear. So I prefer a set of headphones that include individual volume controls for each ear. I like a tightly coiled cord so it doesn't interfere with my digging. And, a good set of headphones must be affordable.

While talking to JW a couple weeks ago, he told me that Kellyco was going to be introducing a new line of AccuSound headphones by DetectorPro. Having owned DetectorPro headphones in the past, and being quite satisfied with their performance, I was anxious to learn more about this specific model. I learned that they were USA made and carried a Limited LifeTime Warranty. As with other DetectorPro headphones, they were 150 ohm impedance, and would block out the ambient noise levels to 30 dB. They have a built-in limiter circuit that will enhance weak signals and, at the same time, keep those large shallow targets from being too loud. The coil cord is made with copper wires and it had a sturdy strain relief at the plug. So far, so good. When JW told me that they had individual volume controls, I was sold! I ordered a pair that day and have been using since they arrived.

My impressions... I like them. They are very comfortable. The earcups are large and well padded. The cord is "tightly wound', keeping the cord out of my way when digging up coins. They respond to all the target signals produced by each of my detectors. Even the low tones, produced by ferrous targets on some of my detectors, offer a distinct sound, allowing me to better separate the trash from the treasure. The individual volume controls have improved the tones I hear. No more "unbalanced" sound effects. All in all, I think Kellyco and DetectorPro have joined forces to produce a real winner. I am glad JW told me about them and plan to use them for a long time to come.

I have used the Original Gray Ghosts for the past several years, these are different I am totally impressed.
About 3 weeks ago I decided to try out a new pair of headphones and opted for the ACCU SOUND by DetectorPro. JW, at Kellyco, tipped me off to these and I must say even though I have used the Original Gray Ghosts for the past several years, these are different I am totally impressed. Same great quality as all DetectorPro products, but a much mellower tone than the GG's have. Comfortably just snug enough and super quiet to outside noises. I recommend them, especially for anyone using a multi-tone detector. Very easy to distinguish tone difference, but as I stated much easier on the old ear drums due to the mellower sound. If you are thinking of a new set of headphones seriously check them out. Thanks JW, appreciate the tip. HH Bill
